Melissa in Disabled Park?

Posted by Trevor Mallard on June 11th, 2009

Just stupid.  Can two days pass without her cocking up?

Remember she is John Key’s handpicked candidate.

Both lack judgement.

There has now been an explanation that the car was legally parked and that Lee was just making a phone call. So post withdrawn or whatever kawa is.

  1. Craig says:

I couldn’t believe it when I saw Mellisa’s Lees campaign vehicle in that park.
What the hell are the Nats thinking.
What further blew me away was Boscowens Lady supporter who said it was no a big issue!

I am stunned at the ignorance! What this reinforces for me is how important candidate selection is. The Nats have stuffed up big time with ML, but we also have to be mindful of who we put up as candidates in seats and on the list.

In the case of Shearer we have got a genuine bloke with a impressive CV. I know Nats who wont campaign against him who other wise would be campaigning for the National Party.

Goff and the Party have done well in Mt Elbert. Hats off to Shearer, Young Labour and all the party activists the who have been working their butts off. Makes you proud to be a party member!

  2. toad says:

The Nats are trying to argue that it was being driven by a genuinely disabled driver.

Did anyone there check if it actually had a CCS card in the windscreen?

  3. Tim Ellis says:

Mr Mallard, I hear that you and Jacinda Ardern were beating this story up last night. No doubt it was your attempt to divert from the emerging revelations of the honey-trap against Dr Worth, and the realisation of Mr Goff’s involvement, and the involvement of Mrs Choudary in Mr Shearer’s campaign.

It was not Melissa Lee’s campaign vehicle. It was one of her supporter’s vehicles. That supporter was disabled, and had a disability card displayed in the windscreen.

Just stupid, Mr Mallard. (edited offensive Trevor)

  4. Tim Ellis says:

My comments on this issue appear to have been put in moderation. Is there some reason for this? Is there something that I have said that is untrue on these matters?

Yes and Yes. And one on wrong post. I have emailed you on this directly. Trevor

  5. sally says:

“There has now been an explanation that the car was legally parked and that Lee was just making a phone call. So post withdrawn or whatever kawa is.”

I don’t know what this is in reference too, but there is never a justification for parking in a disabled parking space unless you have a disability. Just making a short phone call or not, it’s a major inconvenience for someone who genuinely needs it.

  6. Craig says:

I don’t believe that to be true Trev.

Lee was not in the Vehicle when I saw it it was a ute by the way! Not her little Merc this time! I saw it at about 8pm

I admit it was really hard to get parks but hey thats no excuse!

More National spin I think Trev. I bet Goff will be blamed next. By the way you seem to be getting awfully reasonable in your later years Trev.

  7. Whaleoil says:

Melissa Lee took a cab to the pub and the driver of the ute has a legal disability card.

    Why don’t you just apologise?

  8. Trevor Mallard says:

So did Melissa sit in the ute to make a call – if so she lacked judgement. Is the ute painted up to support her – if so the campaign team has questionable judgement. If neither is correct I apologise.

  9. Shane says:

The vehicle shouldn’t have been in that space even if someone was in the driver’s seat and the engine was running and even if it was only for a minute, unless she had one of those disability cards.

  10. Tim Ellis says:

Mr Mallard, I did receive your emails, thank you.

After several attempts by people to create a story out of this, the facts are clear. The driver of the vehicle was legally entitled to park the vehicle in a disability park, due to having a disability card and being disabled.

The vehicle in question was not Melissa Lee’s campaign vehicle. It was a supporter’s vehicle.

Melissa Lee arrived at the event by taxi.

I don’t know if Melissa Lee went there to make a phone call, but I don’t see what the point is if she did. The vehicle was legally parked. It was, as you know, Mr Mallard, a very noisy event.

I was at the event. I heard from several sources, Mr Mallard, that both you and Jacinda Ardern made claims to several reporters that Melissa Lee had parked in a disabled carpark. That allegation was made without any evidence to that effect.

  11. Craig says:

I have to admit I didn’t stop and look at the Windscreen myself I was in my car when I saw it.

I was to busy looking for a legit park and had to park about 2 Ks away and then run back to the pub. I had to park in the opposite direction so didn’t walk back passed the ute. If the driver of the white ute has a CCS then I do apologise.

The facts are also clear in Goffs role in this Worth mess as well.

Goff acted in the claimants best interests, Keys interests, as well as Worths families interest by contacting Key personally then Key stuffed up.

But I bet we don’t get any apologies from any Nat bloggers about that. Time will tell.

  12. Jennifer says:

Lee is such a slippery customer, I’d need to see the taxi chit before apologising.

  13. Tim Ellis says:

How very gracious of you, Jennifer. I’m sure you can come up with further excuses not to apologise, if you really try. If you want lessons on that, you might ask Mr Mallard, who appears to have a policy of not apologising for maligning people.

  14. Trevor Mallard says:

Tim :- I have made it clear to you that I knew nothing of Melissa being in a disabled car park until this morning – if in fact she was. For you to repeat the allegation that I spoke to reporters about it last night just repeats a lie and doesn’t make it true.

Easily sorted. Name your source, bet you can’t because you would be outing a liar. If you don’t have the guts to do that – and we all know you won’t, then get your source to name the reporter. Again bet they can’t.

From memory I had brief conversations with Duncan Garner and Johnathon Milne, longer with Guyon Espiner, Audrey Young and Fran O’Sullivan. A few comments about Melissa’s lack of judgement but none using this example.

  15. Murray says:

You lefties will get into Melissa for absolutely anything. You are all pathetic.
    Deleted offensive Trevor

  16. Sufi Safari says:

Tim, if you could just provide a record of the taxi chit and evidence of the disabled parking permit to my chief of staff…

  17. H. Fee says:

I would argue that having one’s foot constantly stuck in one’s mouth is a permanent handicap, and Melissa Lee is thus more than entitled to use any disabled spot she likes (although I do agree she should at least get her own exemption card).

Oh, and why are all of the namby-pamby, politically correct, right-wing wingers always crying out for an apologies these days?

  18. Craig says:

You right wingers are all the same you state shit that is absolute lies but none of you are big enough to say hmmmmm i was wrong, when others prove you wrong. Seriously.

Tim, Whale Oil, Murray, come on show us all how objective you are.

  19. MikeG says:

There seem to be 2 incidents being muddled together.
    1. Sideswipe in the NZ Herald (Mon 18 May) had a photo of Melissa’s car on broken yellow lines. She claimed to be taking a phone call.
    2. Last night one of her supporters parked (legitimately) in a disabled park.

  20. r0b says:

Nice to see you sorting out Tim Ellis’s nonsense so firmly Trevor. Tim has an established history of lying about the Labour Party and the imagined dastardly deeds of “Labour activists” (he sees them everywhere!). It’s good to see him called on it.

In fact, while you’re at it, there’s another of Tim’s lies in this thread – “the emerging revelations of the honey-trap against Dr Worth”. Charming. I wonder if National would really thank Tim and his ilk for doing their very best to alienate women voters.

  21. Craig says:

I suspect you are right Mike. The incident that I was referring to was on Wednesday Night.

See my previous posts and apology to the owner of the white ute with Lee signs on it, if they have a CCS.

  22. Murray says:

    Offensive to who Trevor?

    Any reasonable person. Trevor

  23. Tim Ellis says:

Tim when you are prepared to name the source or at least stop repeating their lies you will be welcome or at least not deleted from this thread, until then you are not. Trevor

  24. Kindergarten Cop says:

Keep throwing the mud kids, one of these days some of it won’t stick to yourselves

  25. Tim Ellis says:

Mr Mallard, I am disappointed that you have chosen to delete my comment, and claim that I am repeating lies, instead of responding to the comment civilly.

If you don’t wish to engage with voters at red alert through the comments section, then I suggest you disable the comments section. Mr Peters had a heavily moderated comments section last year that was a sycophantic joke. If you wish to follow that model at red alert, that is your choice.

  26. Trevor Mallard says:

Tim I’m happy to engage. I’ve even done it here with DPF and whaleoil.

As you can see from some of the other threads on say gifted education, malls opening or night classes Red Alert is becoming a place for considered opinions. I think thats great.

The blog is also a great place for political debate. And that is happening as well.

I think I’ve been very reasonable to you and will continue to be but I’m not prepared to have Red Alert ruined by your offensive comments made worse by repetition.

  27. ratbiter says:

Is there any substance in these allegations (run by David Farrar) about Neelam Choudary, an immigration scam and $15,000?
    http://www.kiwiblog.co.nz/2009/06/tv3_reports_alleged_choudary_pay_off.html#comments

If so, this Labour voter has two requests for the party:

    (1) PLEASE find and take action against corrupt Labour party members who are running immigration scams etc. Taito Philip Field was a bad enough look without more of the same coming up. Labour is supposed to be a party for the common man, not a party for “Rich Pricks” who want to scam them out of thousands of dollars.

    (2) The Richard Worth scandal looks worse and worse for Labour. Could someone with a better head please roll Goff for the leadership?

  28. Murray says:

Ratbiter, shame on you, you are asking for accountability from Labour MP’s. It just doesn’t happen, remember “nothing to see here, move on” or how about “not in the public interest to pursue”, or again “prima facie case”.

  29. Trevor Mallard says:

Ratbiter Labour voter – Yeah right. Give us some credit for reading a few of your posts on other sites.

  30. senzafine says:

Trev; I think You’re confusing Ratbiter with Redbaiter. Rat most definately has a left bias.

  31. ratbiter says:

    senzafine is correct.

I cannot of course speak for Redbaiter, but any perceived similarity between Redbaiter and Ratbiter is very upsetting to Ratbiter :-(

  32. Trevor Mallard says:

Sorry Ratbiter. I was wrong. Don’t normally get my R&Bs confused.

  33. Inventory2 says:

Ratbiter – for once I agree with you. I’m sure that most right-thinking people would be pleased to see dodgy dealers eliminated from the so-called “immigration industry” where they have preyed upon potential migrants. Although I opposed much of what the former government stood for, I applaud them for having regulated immigration consultants via the licensing regime. It was an overdue move.

  36. PaulL says:

And, I’m afraid I’ll have to disagree with RatBiter. Labour has an obligation/duty to try and manage their candidates, and make sure they have no dirty secrets. And, like any other political party, they’ll probably fail on a few (particularly those who never even became a candidate at all), and the opposite side will make noise about it.

They have absolutely no chance of, nor duty to attempt to, police their membership. The day when someone isn’t allowed to have a political voice because of their past is a sad day in my opinion. Next we’ll be trying to stop people we don’t like from voting for us.

To be clear – I’m saying that probably the Labour party could have shown a bit more judgment about Choudry (given her standing is more than just a member), although I suspect she didn’t exactly tell everyone in the party the situation with her husband (and, allegedly, her involvement in that). But to suggest, as RatBiter has, that somehow the Labour party needs to police its membership is not really practical nor desirable.

  37. Barbiemate says:

When is the BBQ trev? You gotta admit that Goff is looking more and more out of step with, well, everything.

If you dont do it soon, Cunliffe will have it at his place in Herne Bay and that will cost taxpayers money and then you will have more expense issues to resolve.

By the way i can bring the sizzlers, with cheese even.

Let me know when were on big Trev.

  38. graham lowe says:

why cant the labour stay out of the gutter?isnt it ironic when someone calls you up on it trevor you get violent aka tau

  39. graham lowe says:

in the words of the great m cullen we won you lost get over it

  40. Bok says:

Lets see, Mr Mallard is happy to come out “swinging” about people parking in disabled parks
without actually getting the facts straight first. You go Trevor. With your absolute dedication to being a bully, you are sending Labour deeper and deeper into oblivion. And you have my email address I am happy to discuss your bulling behavior.

  41. Mark M says:

We are going through the worst world economic downturn in 8 decades.
People are losing their jobs and homes on daily basis and Trevor Mallard is worried about wether some MP from the governing party has parked in the wrong car park.

but not worried enough enough to check wether he actually had the facts correct.

You guys really live in gaga land.

  42. Kevin A says:

Hey, Trevor… this blog says it’s all about issues you guys care about. Most of us (who only think about politicians every 3 years) don’t give a toss about trivia like this – we’re too busy trying to make a decent jobs of living / working / raising families.

Please up your game and get on with stuff that really matters!!

Thanks and have a good weekend!

  43. Hubbers says:

Same old dirty Labour playing the same old dirty game and playing the player and not the ball.

When Helen left you had a real chance to stop all the dirty personal stuff and start again fresh focusing on genuine left leaning policies giving New Zealanders a real choice between two serious political parties.

But you didn’t. Maybe your next leader will drag Labour out of the gutter.

  44. Murray M says:

Bok, you won’t hear from Trev. In fact right now he’s probably running a mile.

  45. Craig Ranapia says:

    Trevor:

May I suggest the ‘kawa; to follow the next time you pass on a bit of gossip that turns out to be untrue.

    Cut and paste this:

“The above post is inaccurate, and I apologise unreservedly for any offence caused.”

    Then shut up.

You may also consider whether your contribution here are going to pitched above the contributions to a gossip column in a Sunday tabloid. This isn’t the House, where you can talk any nonsense you like without consequence.

  46. jarbury says:

Wow look at the lovely commenters you get after a link from Kiwiblog!

  47. H. Fee says:

Seems David Farrar has dispatched his most loyal mignons to defend Melissa Lee, and, judging by the grammar, they must be such an intellectual bunch too. Is that a faint dixie horn I hear?

  48. Murray M says:

Post deleted, nothing to see here, move on. No apology by Trev required or warranted – Yeah Right

  49. TC says:

Man up Mallard – say it very slowly – “I’m sorry, I was wrong” – my 12 year old shows more maturity than you.

  50. TC says:

Funny how every left-wing blog has comments moderated – haven’t noticed it on the right-wing blogs – what was that about free speech and democracy??
