Resolve is building to save our trees

Posted by on March 1st, 2013

Titirangi Ratepayers and Residents Association public meeting, 21 February 2013.

Resolve is really building in West Auckland to stop National’s chainsaw massacre in the Waitakere Ranges.

Te Atatū Labour MP Phil Twyford, Labour’s Environment spokesperson Maryan Street, Councillors, Local Board representatives and ratepayers groups are all backing the community’s determination to save our trees – which together we surely will.

Following my earlier post I’ve had a few requests for copies of the speech I gave at the recent local meeting to save our trees. So I’ve popped it on my website here.

David Cunliffe’s speech to the Titirangi Ratepayers and Residents Association – Saving our trees (again) – 21 February 2013

Here’s wishing Red Alert readers the chance to enjoy some of New Zealand’s great outdoors with family and friends this weekend.

It sounds like the only way we can actually stop this rape of the last vestiges of the natural environment(local bill)…

Personally, I have found it difficult to grasp just how easily the raiding party can contemplate these sort of mindlessly short sighted, greed driven actions, that will not only turn west auckland into yet another unhealthy “concrete jungle”, but put the continued existence of native species at risk…

I was having a conversation the other day, regarding the raft of attacks on the health of our society being carried out by this group of “rape and pillage” merchants, and a point was raised that made it easier to grasp national party philosophy….

” If you stop thinking of them as human, it becomes easy to see why they act as they do”…And do you know what?.. it works….

I’m not angry anymore…. just frightened for my children, and grandchildren….Very, very, frightened..

This is but one of the vitally important “lines in the sand” issues that need us as a community to fight, and defeat, if we are to have faith that our descendants will have a say in their own nations affairs…

But it is no less important than any of the other “battlegrounds” that need to be created so that we can continue to enjoy our own country, and it’s natural bounty, without having to ask permission from the new owners…

Good speach, as usual btw david..
