Adjournment Debate- David Shearer

Posted by on December 13th, 2012

The final Parliamentary debate of the year is an opportunity to sum up the political year and enjoy a few laughs. Labour had four speakers yesterday, and I will post them up in order today. First up was David Shearer who delivered a funny but also very pointed summing up of National’s Year to Forget. The consensus at the Press Gallery Party last night was that his was the best speech on the day.

Fantastic and reassuring end to a long year in politics for NZ, and the Labour party.Perhaps the recent “unpleasantness”has actually helped galvanise Labour, and prove it’s substance, which is a refreshing contrast to National’s 2 dimensional cardboard cut outs of a cabinet.Enjoy the break!

Top stuff! But lets not forget that much of what happens in Parliament is panto, the real work will be outside in the country.

Labour need to provide a sound platform for taking NZ forward, honesty and transparency goes a long way.

Building credibility takes time, Shearer just needs to be himself and people will judge him over a period of time, after all one swallow does not make a summer.

Slow and surely wins the race.

“parliament is panto”… Only when the tories are using it as a vaudaville venue….otherwise, it is where legislation gets debated,….at least by those not there by dint of “favors” and “service” to their masters, which is the usual pathway to parliament for tories…

to assume a blanket approach to how the institution is misused by polititions is to denigrate the efforts to highlight issues that affect every new zealander..

remember that every law passed in the house changes reality for everyone…. to call that “panto” is falling into the misleading meme that tories, and their “uriah heeps” in the fourth estate have pushed for as long as i’ve been aware of politics… as in “they are all just as bad”…

Time people stopped just repeating tory propaganda, and actually looked for themselves at just who it is that is dragging our lawmaking process into the gutter…deliberately…

Maybe then we might start figuring out all by ourselves just who it is that is doing “panto”, and who is there to represent their constituants, as they were elected to do…

Either we start to sort out the wheat from the chaffe, or we get used to the idea that future raiding parties will continue to steal the wealth generated by policies that actually work for everybody…

By the way, that was the best speach david has made, that I’ve seen… I loved the effect it had on hacker parata, and johnny(sparkles)key….Coward couldn’t even look at david….

All jokes aside dear leader, you too grant time for change, focus, unity and reconnection to both the members and the common people.
We are starving and it’s getting worse under the Tories non direction afloat in a wee boat rudderless directionless adrift in a big sea of neoliberal outdated ness.
Come on dear leader bring on the new direction and lead the people the deserving suffering people outa this mess.

“Building credibility takes time, Shearer just needs to be himself”, if this is the persona he has ‘chosen’, it begs the question – why?

  7. Jack Ramaka says:

Shearer is not a show pony like John Don Key.

  8. GeoffCartwight says:

Exactly jack, no show pony, not even a good public speaker but IMHO he will manage the diversity within labour to provide a better focus, less small cadre and more broad front.
We need a different approach, a unified team approach where all the labour team is let loose, ever single one, even the ones who are a bit diverse and maybe not mainstream labourites.
It’s team labour to the front, recognise our strengths and it’s in unity and it’s the grassroots.
