Watched this morning. Unfortunate but Brownlie brought it on himself.
Funnily enough the only blow they could land on Brownlee was that he’s fat. The rest of it was offensive to New Zealand as a whole…
They managed to rebut one or two of the points Gerry raised about Finland, but it was mostly a tirade about New Zealand including foul accusations about our race relations (and saying terrible, and completely unfounded things about Maori) and suggesting that the only thing New Zealand has ever produced is sheep.
You are not a very good representative of this country if you condone those statements. I would not find this funny if Labour was in government – you should not find it funny simply because it also criticises a National minister. I don’t mind being poked fun at as a country (or as an individual), but there was some pretty awful stuff in there.
Hmm… A small rethink to my earlier comment. I guess in some senses it was a fair response to Gerry Brownlee. But really it went further than it needed to.
I would have thought Finland would have had better quality political satire than that. Colbert would have had a field day with the same material were he Finnish.
I saw some of the comments on the Parliament channel, from memory it wasnt only Gerry Brownlee who made them, Im sure there were many others in the National party making derogatory comments about Finland.
When i saw these i thought it was a bit sad to hassle another country (other than Aussie, they are always fair Game)just to attack Labour.
On the whole not very Kiwi like.
Perhaps Winstons descritption of Brownlee is spot on !
Brownlee spins his comments as satire and humour, and waves this mobile phone like cooling a hotcake, but there was genuine bile in his voice. When will this gigantic bully get his come-uppance?
This guy pissed me off! He should have insulted Brownlee not all of NZ… still made me laugh though hahaha thanks for the link
the Finnish chap is a comedian, so can be as irresponsible as he likes; Brownlee is a government minister, so needs to think before opening gob. And to think he called Bob Parker a clown…
Joel, I am glad you rethought. A politician slagging off others for “humour” is far worse than a comedian retaliating.t
