If u turn off during Nats turn on @7.50pm

Posted by on October 28th, 2011

Tonight, Channel One will be playing Labour’s TV Opening at 7.50pm.

The Broadcast is always an important milestone in the election campaign.  Each Party has the opportunity to lay out their vision for New Zealand and tonight we know you will see two really different paths forward.

No doubt National’s broadcast will be full of the tired old short-term fixes we’ve come to see from John Key.

But we know that there’s a different way, a better way.

And we’ve used a doco style. Bold different fresh.

Make sure you tune in to watch our Address at 7:50pm on Channel One.

    Is Phil in it?

  2. Draco T Bastard says:

But we know that there’s a different way, a better way.

Well, there is, yes but you (Labour) don’t know it. If you did you wouldn’t be continuing with the same failed ideology (capitalism).

  3. Trevor Mallard says:

    @reid watch and learn

  4. ed says:

The right wingers have no sense of humour (and no imagination either). Hit them on the funny bone and they will scatter.

  5. reid says:

I thought my 5:53 was quite humourous and I’m a right winger, ed.

It wasn’t very imaginative though, was it. Perhaps if I’d thrown in a unicorn. Let’s hope Trev’s organised one of them for the doco. To boost credibility.

  6. ed says:

@ reid: Did you think of that one (5:53) or is it the official national party joke in disguise.

And while your at it why don’t you give yourself a gold star for comedic achievement

  7. reid says:

I already have, ed. I made it myself out of tinsel and it looks really good.

I hope you don’t mind but I’ve just engraved it as conferred by you. Hope that’s OK.

Look seriously, let’s wait for the doco, then discuss that.

  8. Anne says:

    Is Phil in it?

Yes reid. You tossed it in to the mix as a humorous quip. I’m a leftie, but can still appreciate a spot of humour – even from righties. :)

  9. ed says:

@ reid: Ho Ho Ho… You made it out of tinsel.. Stop, your killing me….

But seriously: how can I learn to praise myself so that I too can own slaves without feeling bad, just like you…

  10. reid says:

So far Key is coming across extremely well. Excellent format, Q&A – very clever, very different from all previous openings in memory. Also to bring in the natural and global economic disasters up front, to remind people of the current unavoidable national and international calamities. Very smart.

Oh dear: the “mixed ownership model” aka “asset sales.” Labels eh. So very important. Disappointing to see the Nats stoop to this level though. I’m well aware others use them, all the time, of course. Shame however to see my side stoop to this duplicity. But hey. Part of today’s arena. Regrettably.

Addressing the national standards very well. Selling what is in fact, a v popular policy. Amongst the parents. Who cares if the teachers don’t like it? How many of them, are there? How many parents? Strong sell.

Health. Ryall’s done v well. What a star. Turned Health, notorious for difficulty, into a good news story that has evidence behind it. He has done v well, no scandals under his watch, that impacted, nothing but more efficiency. Excellent.

Interesting how Key changed his voice tone and pitch while speaking on the crime issue. Quite noticeable. Very smart use of subliminal techniques by Key.

Card limiting purchases of smokes and beer, is going to be a good policy.

    Looking forward to Trev’s @ 7:50.

    Isn’t JK just wonderful?

    He’s so popular, isn’t he.

Seriously, I think Labour’s strategy to focus on policy and nothing but is brilliant, and about time. It’s about time Key was confronted on his failure to take hard decisions.

  11. Ian says:

Key is putting me to sleep – better set the alarm for 7:50

  12. SPC says:

Interesting the camera shots to the adoring crowd is so heavily focused on anyone ethnic in it – apparantly Key is so popular because his support is that mainstream it’s everywhere.

  13. reid says:

National’s policy of privatising ACC should be fully exposed during the campaign, if I were you, Trev.

This is a way to cut into their heartland for there are a lot of conservatives who understand ACC and the value of the no-fault design, which is the heart and which isn’t secure, under privatisation.

This is one of their Achilles heels.

If I were you, I’d also drop the envy angles completely – just listening to the RadioNZ broadcast for context – you already have anyone who is persuaded by that angle, so why waste airtime on the converted? And envy doesn’t work with hardly any of our [conservative] potential floaters. That’s who you want, isn’t it?

Look forward to watching it in a few mins Trev. Thanks, Blue State Digital, eh?

  14. ed says:

JK wants to build a brighter future for rich people… Who is going to do the building tho? Not the national party contributors i’ll bet.. They’ll be the ones keeping the profits all to themselves as usual..

  15. ed says:

Well done Labour.. Very nice opening…

  16. SPC says:

So National tried to explain it’s government performance (centred around trust in the popular PM) and Labour chose to explain what the party is about (going on to focus its ads on policy) to establish why people can trust it in government. It was wise to use a range of MP’s to do this, not just because they all have their own story, as they speak better on camera than Phil (who can vocally come across as a little stilted).

  17. Dan B says:

I was totally impressed by the broadcast — it was professionally produced and designed. Compared to the yawnfest that National’s broadcast was, it was actually watchable.

  18. Anne says:

Came in half way through the Nat. ad. What I saw was so stage managed. Key was obviously reading his answers off one of those auto-cue things. What’s he going to do on Monday night when he has to figure out the answers for himself? Cover up his lack of substance by shouting over the top of Goff or try and turn the debate into a farce?

The audience were being cued when to smile and clap. So false… but expect some people will fall for it.

  19. ed says:

It was a stroke of luck that I missed the whole of Jonkey’s speech, and definitely not a planned dismissal.

  20. Curious says:

I thought both broadcasts were of very high quality.

Labour managed to show that it may not have the most charismatic leader but isn’t a one man band like National.

National might suffer from being seen as a one-man party.

The crowd in the National Party broadcast sure seemed keen on the cash-card/beneficiary thing.

  21. John W says:

John Key was his usual greaseball. Worn out cliches and meaning less spin.
He just was groping for ways to gain support from the short term business mob while not mentioning that in plain word in case the stupid are shocked.
Devoid of any meaningful planning…..mainly spin, hype, meaningless repetitious phrases and hollow gestures.

I noticed he was not up to his most cocky countenance so must be a bit shaken by the things happening around NZ and the world gnawing at the roots of capitalism and more importantly the criminal bankers of which he is definitely an identified and named culprit along with Merrill Lynch his home territory, JP Morgan, Alan Greenspan and the Mega Fraudsters at the Privately owned US Federal Reserve, also his stamping ground with those mates.
His name is being blogged about around the world rightfully and this is just the beginning.

Labour showed a real sincerity and initiative in putting across a comprehensive and straight forward description of pedigree and performance while doing a plain duty revealing National’s scurrilous damage to this country and its people over many years.
The Norm Kirk superannuation scheme which was the most sound economic measure NZ has ever had equal to John A Lee’s state housing ( it was Lees initiative and push, not Savage’s, Frazer’s nor Nash’s )
Lee and Kirk were brave men facing the international bankers without flinching.

Altogether Labours opening salvo was brilliant with balance and variety but showed the team approach with its various spokes people who had fire, urgency and authority.

Still one feels that the biggest issues underlying the world economic distress are not tacked publicly. Perhaps they can’t be for fear of scaring business who only think profit and short term as do shareholders.

The Greens were nice and mentioned the environment which gets taken for granted but is the real economy. They were speaking to the converted but the battle to keep the damaging National agenda at bay is really too important for the greens to have immediacy alone.
    WELL DONE PHIL and TEAM.

  22. Jenkins says:

This: “No doubt National’s broadcast will be full of the tired old short-term fixes we’ve come to see from John Key.”

And this: “John Key was his usual greaseball”

What nasty people you Labour supporters are. My parents are in your electorate Mallard, and have been long-term Labour voters. I will do all I can to stop them from voting for you.

This site has been an eye-opener. People always went on about the pettiness of Labour, and I always also it was just a partisan meme. But no, that’s what you guys are actually like. Nasty to the core.

Everyday I see comments from people who seem to be embarrassed about the vindictiveness of the comments here, and yet you continue. No wonder you are plummeting in the polls.

No doubt you’ll assume and smear that I’m some National/ACT voter here to “spread lies”, but that is becoming a self-fulfilling prophesy. You seem to only want supporters who will support blindly without comment – well most people aren’t going to do that. I wonder if this attitude will be your demise.

  23. Anne says:

You have an incredibly short memory Jenkins or you are stupid – or you are a fraud!

  24. Spud says:

“Card limiting purchases of smokes and beer, is going to be a good policy.” 16 and 17 year olds can’t buy them anyway! :-D There’s another card limiting that, it’s called an ID :-D :-D :-D !

    Hi Anne! :-D :-D :-D !!!!!

  25. John W says:

    Jenkins
Get real. A vote to National is a vote against NZ.

A Greaseball is a smarmy. insincere conman twisting and conniving to achieve ends against those he is smarmy towards. The smile and wave is making most NZders sick. Promises are made, broken then ignored.

OK would Conman suit you better.

    Do you want some examples.

If I said similar about a Labour politician then this blogsite would still publish it, UNLIKE the right wing sites that only publish what suit them.

    Honesty vs Pretence

  26. ed says:

@ Jenkins: “What nasty people you Labour supporters are.”

Right wing policies force poor people into poverty, this is a fact. I will explain this for you because you have obviously never experienced poverty yourself.

When you don’t have enough money to pay for food or shelter you become scared and desprate. This feels just like when someone is trying to kill you. Now do you understand?

Right wingers only care about getting themselves rich. balance deleted. Trevor

  27. George says:

When you don’t have enough money to pay for food or shelter you become scared and desprate.

The welfare system in New Zealand means that no one should be in a position to be without food or shelter. Unless they make the wrong choices of what to do with the money the taxpayer has given to them.

Yes, living on benefit doesn’t provide for a life of luxury, but it is sufficient to keep body and soul together.

Right wingers only care about getting themselves rich.

And unfortunately, in order to ensure there’s always a consitutancy of votes there for the taking, Left wingers have a vested interest in keeping as many as

  28. Bea says:

“What nasty people you Labour supporters are”

I agree – some of them are very vitriolic bitter people.

If you read kiwiblog, you’ll see equally hideous National-supporting people.

If you decide that parties that have some nasty idiots supporting them shouldn’t get your vote, you’d run out of parties to vote for.

  29. Tim says:

Jenkins wrote: “People always went on about the pettiness of Labour, and I always also it was just a partisan meme.”

Who are you and why are you now posting here? For a new poster you’re really quite attuned to the redalert tory memes!

Is it because you’re a fraud?

  30. ed says:

@ George: So if it is in labours best interests to keep people “as” (as you say) why then is national party policy to lower wages? Wouldn’t that just be playing into labours hands.

    *you’re*
    *meaningless* (it’s one word)
Crickey… This is all a bit vitriolic here for me… The doco was very well put together…but stretched the circumstances of each claim a bit further than a credible documentary would have been able to do.
No mention of our foreign offices having to sell the artwork off the walls to pay the rent under labour…plenty of asset sales Labour’s effected over the years…so slightly hypocritical to poo poo National engaging in the opportunity for kiwis to invest in NZ owned, Govt backed companies (that clearly and loudly will always remain with a 51% Govt ownership and that’s where I want my kiwisaver funds to be)
A real shame you people here playing the players and not the ball… No doubt I’ll be labelled a ‘fraud’ for posting a bit of balance?
Play nice, or nobody will want to be part of your team…you’ve turned me off.
    goodnight.

  33. Debs NZ says:

Missed off… I’ve been very poor, never felt like somebody was trying to kill me?! Just made a decision to get off my arse and do something so that I wasn’t reliant upon somebody else giving me a job (try some ingenuity, perseverance and hard work…far more rewarding than a Govt handout)
    Give it a go…
