There will be several ads of this style in the campaign, called animatics in the trade. Same message as Phil’s asset sales ad. With Labour we can pay down debt, through among other things bringing in the CGT, and keep our assets.

Simple and effective. There’s just one small problem with the Stop Asset Sales campaign. There are many voters who still don’t understand what is meant by ‘Assets’. It will need to be explained again and again…
(Thanks Anne. That’s why the first add runs with Phil at the dam, and why the graphic has the association with Air New Zealand, Grant)
Labour could align the ’stop ( power) asset sales’ with the reduced competition and higher prices that would come with takeovers in the generation business.
As night would follow day, one or more of the government owned generators would be swallowed up by their competitors.
How about an image of a young couple sitting close to a one bar heater to save money from spiralling energy costs
I like this one. Using some 15 second slots forces you to keep things simple and state what the issues are.
Perhaps a shorter URL for the campaign site would be a good idea – 1 syllable domain names are best – easy to remember so activists and supporters can send people in the right direction, but I can appreciate it’s hard to get a good, unique and short domain name these days.
Grant, will you buy back the 15% of Air NZ not owned by New Zeland, previously sold by Labour, when you get back into power? You know to make sure that it is 100% owned by New Zealand.
Do NZers care that much? Your message is simple – but the assets sales vs no asset sales policy has been around a long time now and it does not seem like too many people are convinced it is the demon the left wish it to be. Is that because in reality we understand that it is only a partial sell off with the Government retaining 51% control.
This ad is excellent. Well scripted, short, sharp, memorable. Great stuff, team!
This would be the logical extension of the rhetoric which is accompanying this major aspect of Labour’s rearguard action. So presumably the costing of Labour’s policies will include an amount sufficient to reclaim all the sales (partial and otherwise) entered into by previous governments (of both colours)…
Great advert. Very simple and clear, keep it up. Shame comments are disabled on the Youtube account.
…an exert from Air Nz’s CEO’s email to Phil
In the case of the advertisement that was highlighted in the 3News story, the Koru has been used facing in the wrong direction, a move clearly designed for production purposes so the visual treatment of the ad works with the script. The context of the Koru’s use as a symbol to provoke political controversy is in conflict with the core meaning of the Koru and denigrates and debases a symbol that we cherish, and one I believe all New Zealanders cherish. Furthermore, having the letters ASS in caps precede the Koru is, in my view, disrespectful to the brand and all those who have worked to give it the strength and resonance it has globally today.
I would ask that the advertisement featuring the Koru is not used in its current form, or at aminimum the creative treatment is amended so as to not denigrate and debase this brand symbolthat has transcended generations and symbolises our future hopes and aspirations.
Yours sincerely

What good is the brand to us if some guy in china owns the airline? Oh thats right nats only care about their own selfish interests.
And who from around the world is watching our local political broadcasts and judging our airline unfavorably because of a five second segment? Thats right, nobody (unless the nats make a huge deal about it of course).
