Turns out it was my cockup that resulted in an email intended for supporters getting out into the blogs and then the MSM.
I added a few friends and acquaintances who are interested in politics to a list to get the package stopping asset sales and doing a tax switch to my normal supporters list. They got that on Thursday as the embargo came off.
Unfortunately for me I used that list again instead of my normal supporters list on Friday evening when I described the positive response to the package.
On it inter alia was David Farrar.
My bad. I’m sorry.
I think the content of the email is of greater interest than how it managed to get ‘leaked’
Is this “Slogans for Spud” idea of not covering policy detail going to be the LP’s ongoing approach to this election?
small change
“The key point for us is not to be dragged down into the detail on the CGT. The public don’t care and we get boring.”
…it will be interesting to see how much you are forgiven.
it’s interesting to see a Government of no plan, let alone detail, criticising labour for wanting to tell less not more.
Anyone able to tell me the difference between the post R Worth just got in Monacco and the one Owen Glen wanted?
Tracey: From my undertanding, one (Worth) is representing Monaco to New Zealand, the other (Glen) would have been representing NZ to Monaco.
Big difference.
Jeff, that’s as I understand it too.
Trevor, you have demonstrated the ability to admit fault so you can be leader.
Inflation has hit a 21 year high… Wayne Mapp’s debacle, and now Richard Worth, a little email Gaffe pales in comparison..
Tracey,
Worth had this post prior to entering parliament.
Trevor well done on being open about a mistake. Would that National / ACT politicians were as open and honest.
I haven’t read your comments; just comment on them by others, but I wholeheartedly agree that the broad aspect of the policy initiatives are more important than detail. Detail may well change following detailed analysis by departments and coalition partners; the broad thrust will not; and we can expect Labour, unlike National/ACT, not to push big changes through under urgency, without consultation.
I’m sure you’ll edit this comment Trevor but I will post it anyhow.
This whole debacle shows how getting into bitchy mud-slinging with bloggers like Whaleoil do nothing to further your cause.
I have spoken to other Labour MP’s about your plainly disrespectful attitude towards people that visit this site who happen to disagree with you.
My favourite comment was from Moana Mackey: “I can confidently say that thanks to Labour’s tax plan if an election were held tonight in Countdown Gisborne we would be Government.”
Ahaha… Maybe you could be minister of the deli section while Moana could have the dual portfolios of butchery and produce.
This is pushing it Curious. Perhpas you should practice what you preach. Clare
Trevor why has this announcement been made so shables like, I despair at you guys sometimes you couldn’t organise a piss up in a brewery, do you WANT to have the worst polling result ever or are you going to pull finger and start performing? This is good policy but you guys are making a hash of it. You’re going to have to face up to a lot of angry supporters soon if you don’t start doing better!
battleheed have you been reading the stuff that Key puts out, hes continually contradicting his previous announcements or letting the cat out the bag a head of time, and then there are the times his staff has to correct what he said as a ‘mis-spoke’
Sorry Trevor, i got it from 3 other people and Farrar wasn’t one of them.
ghostwhowalksnz when everybody loves you they forgive mistakes, when you’e this far behind you have to step carefully though the traps, sure the msm want us to fall on our faces but not from all the traps we’ve set for ourselves ffs.
@whale I did say inter alia, was a group including Act and National members, bankers accountants etc.
The fact that your relationship with Farrar has broken down to that extent is for you to sort not for us to worry about.
The fact that Farrar is on any mailing list of your is reason enough for his permanent ban from the VRWC to be extended to more permanent.
If I were you I’d look a bit closer at some of your caucus members.
How to write an apology that’s not an apology.
This is a pretty appalling gaffe. Didn’t your handlers teach you not to put anything on paper (electronic or otherwise) that you wouldn’t want to see in court?
Jesus wept.
So are you on one of my lists Whale. Looking forward to your public confession and resignation from VRWC. Caucus members didn’t get that email.
…Well, well, well…I have learnt something…the right is very much at war with itself..Crouching Penguin, Hidden Whale…whose got the Hopoate finger?
Ehoa – Penguin’s purity on the “right” is continually in question and the subject of many wars within. That he even wishes to accommodate the possibility of a CGT the latest example.
Trev, congrats on admitting when you’ve made an F-up – I am always very impressed when a politician clearly apologises when it’s their bad.
@ Cactus, sounds like you’ve been spiked once too often?
@ prickly I agree with Farrar & Hooten… CGT is fine (esp without the zillion exemptions) but which box do we tick if we want CGT AND partial asset sales. Trev.. ‘mybad’= very retro and edgy.
Pedrovsky , thats probably Peter Dunne- unless he still has Joyces boot on his throat
Never mind Trevor, be more careful with email next time.
” Caucus members didn’t get that email.”
Why not?…would they not have stopped you if you had run a draft past them?
Poor Trev
That sucks that it got out
!
