Red Alert

Rodney Hide private eye

Posted by Phil Twyford on June 30th, 2011

Just seen outside my campaign office on Te Atatu Rd: Crown car pulls over, Hon Rodney Hide gets out and takes a picture of my humble campaign office.

One wonders: Does he like the architecture? The tasteful red and white paint job? Is he getting ready for a new career as a private detective after November? Is this a suitable use of Parliamentary-funded Crown car and driver? If it’s work done as a Minister, will he answer parliamentary questions on it? Can I OIA the photo of my office? I wonder if Tau was miffed that Rodney didn’t snap his office across the road?

Any theories about this strange Ministerial behaviour?

There’s a pretty good explanation of it over at Slater’s blog Anne, and as I have pointed out between you insulting me I did mention it in a comment at 4:30 that is still in moderation. But don’t let facts get in the way of your bleating.

  2. Gregor W says:

    @ Anne

Lou raised earlier (which you responded to) that surely the best way to find out is to actually ask Mr. Hide what he was doing.
We can’t possibly his intentions until the question is put to him.
I’m sure if Mr. Twyford burns to know Mr. Hide’s intentions for the sake of democratic transparency and a fervent desire to see citizen’s money used appropriately, he will make the effort to find out on your behalf.

This way all your pointless innuendo and conjecture re ‘intimidation’,'truthfulness’, and what is ‘bizarre’ or ‘normal’ can be put to bed.

    Seems fairly simple to me.

  3. Anne says:

Methinks some of us are getting too close to the bone.

  4. Peter S says:

Why not release the quote I gave from WO’s blog? Does it not expose this whole charade as just another vacuous beat up. It is very sad that this internet forum gets such selective censorship because it suppresses debate; loses credibility and reduces the contributors to a bunch of mindless sychophants.

  5. Portion Control says:

If by “bone” you mean “worst election result ever” then yes, your party is heading that way with silly posts like Twyford’s today Anne.

  6. SHG says:

So where WAS Twyford during the opening of the new Arohanui Satellite Class at Edmonton School in Te Atatu? Sounds like everyone else turned up.

  7. Phil Twyford says:

That is not nearly as mysterious as why Rodney Hide was taking pictures of my office. I had two other prior engagements in the electorate that clashed with the opening, and had visited Edmonton School and been given a tour of the new Arohanui unit two weeks before, and with two other Labour colleagues going it seemed overkill to make it three.

It is interesting how defensive the surviving remnants of the Rodney Hide fan club are about this. But when your mascot is caught behaving in such a creepy way, I suppose it would make you defensive.

Rodney Hide’s explanation, first trotted out by Cactus Kate, and then by Cameron Slater, is pretty pathetic really. He thought it was odd that there should be a National MP’s office on one side of the road and a Labour MP’s on the other so he gets out of his Crown car and takes pictures of mine? Not very convincing.

  8. Peter S says:

Climb out of the gutter Phil and stick to the facts and leave out the aspersions and false accusations. The photo taken is on WO website – it is actually a pic of Henare’s office with yours to one side. Perhaps that is how it should be. Your balloon has been pricked – live with it.
I have no truck with Rodney – he has passed his use by date -but what gets up my nose is politicians who think there is some political advantage in smear tactics. Do your job and and concentrate on issues that really matter.
As an addon in my infrequent visits to this site I see it developing into a platform for frustrated pollies making wild unsubstantiated claims to a gullible audience, without fear of rebuttal. They are of course protected by censorship (moderation). Pravda reborn.

Twyford you’ve been caught out trying to beat up a nothing story into a big issuse about use of ministerial crown vehicles, which you have toned down when you’ve realised how much your own leader uses taxpayer funded transport. Instead you continue the bluster about the Rodney fan club.

I hope you’re not including me in that list because I’ve already put my view here on that, so for you to repeat that is just being dishonest.

I know you’re a new MP Mr Twyford, good old Richard Prebble used to come off second best every time he attacked Muldoon but it didn’t stop him doing it. Surely you can pick a bigger fish than Rodney to lose to though?

  10. JagMan says:

Oh Greg Presland aka Micky Savage, get off your high horse. Remember your the one that publicly abused people with clinical depression. I pity you. Your phone number, address and the amount of money you received on legal aid is all online posted by various people.

phil gets the prize for the best rwnj bait dangled this week.

looks like you’ve got the whole team trying to outdo each other here mr twyford. keep it up. we all need reminding as often as possible what it is that passes for “debate” from the supporters of this govt.

they should be thanked for showing us how to not run a democracy.

Looks like the Cameron Slater fanboy club was told to go and infest this post. Slater should show a bit of compassion to others if he expects the same. He is a great one for engaging in the most appalling behaviour and then plays the victim if he thinks someone else is treating him the same way.

Do you guys have a clubhouse and secret handshakes and everything?

    Portion Control @ 1 July 9:34pm

Sniff, sniff, now where is that bone. Ah yes.. the smell’s getting stronger. On to it!

  14. Tracey says:

“I don’t care about the personal attacks of the past, I care about the personal attacks now…”

So speaks someone whose party was out of power for nine years and is in now, and whose leader lied in campaign 2008 when he said he and his colleagues would exceed behavioural standards set by the previous government(the past), better transparency and greater accountability. Now those lies, people like PC can excuse, made as they are by people whose policies he agrees with. The end justifies the means and all that. How morally outraged are those who set aside their morals to get to a position to be morally outraged now (as opposed to the past).

  15. Bob says:

Ah the RWNJS they can’t have much else to do!
It’s a pity they can’t put half of that energy into productive work like increasing skills and opportunity for our society

  16. Anne says:

    Good points Tracey.
It would be interesting to know if Rodney Hide was acting of his own volition, or whether he was detailed by someone else to carry out the photographic exercise. Not necessarily by a politician either.

  17. Portion Control says:

Anne I hope you’re not suggesting what I think you are, because to suggest somebody else not who’s not a politician might be interested in Twyford’s office might be walking a legal tightrope.

  18. Tracey says:

PC, that’s ridiculous. This is a blog. A person named “Anne” is opining about a possible scenario. There is absolutely no legal tightrope being walked, jogged or sprinted upon.

    You guys are very funny.

“Climb out of the gutter Phil and stick to the facts and leave out the aspersions and false accusations.” You mean like making Peters and glenn about the former PM, for months and months, like the scurrilous assertions around the former PM’s husband, like the dirty, mirky Bretheren scandal…

  19. Anne says:

Suggest that if you choose to make a false insinuation based on my comment @ 11:23am PC, then you could be walking a legal tight-rope.

  20. Whaleoil says:

The dirty murky Brethren scandal was one run by Labour, where amongst other things they were called “chinless scarf wearers” in parliament.

The vitriol that was heaped upon 6 men who did nothing more than spend their own money opposing a government was a disgusting spectacle and a new low in NZ politics.

  21. Portion Control says:

Then come out with what you mean Anne rather than playing at shadows. You know that Twyford’s office is the subject of legal interest at the moment. Are you saying that Hide might be acting on behalf of one of the parties?

  22. JagMan says:

Yes Greg, we have both a clubhouse and secret handshakes. Our clubhouse makes your hugely successful law firm office look like a dump. It wasn’t hard.

  23. Anne says:

Then come out with what you mean Anne rather than playing at shadows. You know that Twyford’s office is the subject of legal interest at the moment.

Oooh I say… so that’s what I was supposed to have been suggesting.
Thanks for letting me know. You see PC, I wasn’t playing at shadows. It’s the first I’ve heard of it. I was so hoping you would enlighten me.

Now could you also enlighten us as to the reason Rodney Hide is so interested in this matter? After all, he’s off to greener pastures in a few month’s time. One wouldn’t think he would be interested.

  24. Anne says:

Oh, and thanks also for confirming that I really was on to it :D .
