Brash on Iraq War

  1. Monty says:

I think Labour need another reminder. This quote form the NZ Herald opion by John Armstrong this morning ” As Helen Clark discovered, he is a deceptively dangerous political opponent.”.

Of course I celebrate this, but I wonder at the intelligence of Labour who only seem capable of looking back, while the danger for you lot is the way Brash looks forward to a better and richer New Zealand. Do not ever forget this is the guy who went within a whisker against all predictions of nearly winning the un-winnable election in 2005.

Don Brash as much as the Left hate him, he does carry massive credibility on economic matters. That is his strength area, and that is where he will win votes. Labour will become even more marginalized.

  2. Ianmac says:

In 2005 if it hadn’t been for the lies and deceit and the bumbling of Don Brash the National Party might have won the election. But Monty you do like to reinvent history.

  3. Monty says:

Ian – As much as I would love to debate with you lies and deceit and theft (for that matter), I won’t for fear of Trev who has not been cycling for too long giving me a life time ban for speaking the truth. But I think you understand my jist.

If anything I believe Don Brash was too honest and not media savvy enough.

  4. Gary Jones says:

In 2005, the country stepped back quickly just in time from Brash’s bullshit.

  5. Red Devil says:

Trevor is Labour going to pull the SAS out of Afghanistan when you return to office?

  6. Trevor Mallard says:

Phil made it clear we do did not support them going back in.

  7. Red Devil says:

Trevor what’s wrong with going after the Taliban?

  8. tracey says:

Monty I agree that Brash was honest. I dont agree that he was “too” honest, that implies deceit is to be applauded.

I know exactly what Brash stands for, I have the same doubts about the PM and what he stands for as I did in 2005 to 2008. Brash was honest about his political views, and dishonest in his private life and in political strategy. So, he is sometimes honest and sometimes not.

“but I wonder at the intelligence of Labour who only seem capable of looking back” Monty, even you must see the irony of this comment given most of your posts include a condemnation for something Labour did in the past, including over 20 years ago.

  9. tracey says:

Red Devil – since when was Saddem Hussein a Taliban member or even sympathiser?

  10. Monty says:

Tracey, What I want to know is how Labour are going to address the problems that NZ faces. In particular the Massive annual deficit of $15b. To date all we have seen from Labour is a promise to spend more and make the massive deficits even worse. As the election draws closer, this is the question that must be answered. Labour are obsessed with John Key and now Don Brash, in what is I guess an attempt to draw attention away from Labour own lack of policy and ideas to fix the economy (that is ironically LLabour’s own legacy)

  11. tracey says:

How far and deeply do you look for that though Monty? I’ve read stuff from Cunnliffe, King, Curran and Barker to indicate where they will take the country and how. Truthfully though Monty, as a fan of Don Brash it’s unlikely labour could ever have an answer that would appeal to you?

As an aside just read an interesting paper by Roger Kerr from 2002 about saving and why there is no proof NZers are poor savers. If anyone is interested

  12. tracey says:

“It’s not what people don’t know that’s the problem, it’s what they do know that’s not true”.

  13. jabba says:

when are the personal attacks on opponents going to stop and policy gets debated.
Goff said on the Nation this morning that Labour were going to fight on the issues?

  14. Spud says:

    @Monty – are you Don Brash? :?

I see you acknowledge that the country is in trouble! 8O

“What I want to know is how Labour are going to address the problems that NZ faces.” – Don’t worry Monty you won’t have to wait long until Labour gets back into power and fixes it all up for you. :-) There, there :-D

    Good quote Tracey! :-D

  15. Red Devil says:

Tracey I opposed the invasion of Iraq. My main concern is Afghanistan.

  16. tracey says:

    Thanks RD.

  17. Ian says:

Red Devil – you need to watch the film Charlie Wilson’s War and get some perspective on who exactly created the problem.

  18. tracey says:

C’mon Ian, dont wreck a good anti terrorist fear mongering justification argument with silly things like facts, like Rumsfeld financing S Hussein and Bin laden when it suited US interests/.agenda.

  19. Red Devil says:

If I was to get a perspective Ian I wouldn’t get it from a movie. Poetic licence is often an issue. Yes I know. Saddam and the Taliban got weapons from the West to fight the Commies. That doesn’t change the fact that:

    1. They think that people like me who are Christian should be wiped off the face of the Earth.

    2. Their forbears had no conscience in killing 3 000 people with the Twin Towers and two airplanes.

My point is, sometimes you’ve got to have balls. And I don’t like to be bullied, which is what the Taliban are doing. Why put up with that crap?

Better still, if we have soldiers that can take these guys on, why WOULDN’T we do it? Because their’s heaps of pacifists on the left. And their pacifism is ignorance.

  20. Ian says:

OMG – a whole 3000 killed; the coalition have killed and maimed a hundred, maybe a thousand times that amount.

Fighting for a just cause is one thing, fighting because my beliefs are better than yours isn’t – all religions, IMHO are bullshit.

Your gross generalistion that the Taliban wish to irridicate all the christian world really suggests you are a little paranoid!

  21. Red Devil says:

It’s not a gross generalisation. The Coalition have killed more people than the Taliban, but there’s one difference. The Taliban did it deliberately; the Coalition didn’t. However you’re twisting this into Iraq, and I’m discussing Afghanistan. As I mentioned before, I opposed the invasion of Iraq.

    Why are religions bullshit?
