Lots of praise for the new Governor General designate Jerry Mateparae. I agree, understated but strong and straightfoward. A good appointment.
But to date the media has ignored an obvious point – as a former member of the SAS he won’t need the diplomatic protection police around him.
Absolutely capable of protecting himself. The team can catch criminals.
I offer congratulations to the man.
I hope, should he be tested by challenging constitutional circumstances, he will make the correct decision.
Like MasterCard: priceless !
Awesome, a GG carrying his own M16A2.
The dude has super fighting powers!
Is he the new awesome Maori guy?

Nobody here dare mention John Minto’s piece on this otherwise you’re in the dog box. Keep it nice and clean, everyone, nice and friendly now, okay? Except of course, hasn’t John Minto got a point? I’m not a lawyer, but aren’t there some similarities here to former S-G Terence Arnold sitting on the bench of the Court of Appeal hearing cases involving the Crown? Nobody ever really questioned that to any great degree but it always smelt a bit funny. While the G-G’s role giving royal assent to Bills is in practice symbolic, isn’t there still a underlying power to say “no, I’m not going to sign this”? If there is then Minto’s got a point.
“But to date the media has ignored an obvious point…”
He is currently chief of the GCSB spy agency and doesn’t plan to stand down until just before he takes over as GG. Not a good look?

Maybe he’ll like a little company.
Remember one thing Trevor.
Tau Henare is the bald one with a clean upper lip.
Mateparae has hair and a moustache.
I suspect that if you were to mix them up it could be very detrimental to your health. The SAS play pretty rough.
Please keep other blog discussions there. Trevor
The dudes a legend. big respect for him.
Who’s that, Matthew, John Minto? Me too.
