Posted by Clare Curran on December 3rd, 2010

A show of solidarity from acrosss the ditch. The Australian Workers Union (AWU) represents the miners at Beaconsfield in Tasmania where there was another mining accident several years ago.

Good on them

Just one of many acts of kindness being shown around our country and the globe on this.

    Quoted from the website
“In a letter to the EPMU sent straight after the tragedy the AWU National Secretary, Paul Howes, wrote: “Our union members are all too familiar with the awful aspect of a mining industry where deaths occur much too often because, in our view, the mining industry whether in New Zealand or Australia just refuses to put a priority on safety issues.

“ This incident in New Zealand, along with similar tragedies in the mining industry across the globe, should remind us all that a core role for trade unions is to campaign for constantly improving safety standards, and to be ever vigilant, on a daily basis, about workplace safety issues.”

I see that Mr Little has started campaigning today, or should that be campaigning for next year’s election.

no threads about WikiLeaks? It’s annoying how you can’t start a discussion thread. They spied on Aunty Helen.I don’t know about everyone else but I’m right browned off.

Plutonian don tbe too surprised, remember Mr Key spent almost ayear railing at Helen Clark over the contraditions between Owen Glenn and Peters. Key and the Nats demanded she dump Peters, she said wait for an investigation because she cannot be arbiter between two men who have a different version. NO sceamed Key, Key says NO screamed the MSM for weeks and months…

Peters was not found guilty by the police investigation but the Nats succeeded in finding the one innocent person in the whole saga, Clark guilty.

So, where does that leave the Worth, Brownlee, Heatley, Wong situations? Bizarrely Key is said to be showing strong leadership.

“On August 29, 2008, he stood down as Foreign Affairs and Racing Minister pending a police investigation into accusations that he failed to declare a series of political donations received by his party. On September 23, 2008, Peters was censured by the Parliament for “knowingly providing false or misleading information on a return of pecuniary interests” over a $100,000 donation made in 2005.”

So, how does this compare with key’s campaign promise of higher standards than Labour, transparency and honesty. Justify and rationalise away to your heart content Nat supporters but you cant make it ok.

  4. Swampy says:

Peters was cleared by the police but no one else really believed it did they. Censured by Parliament as you put it. Which is a neat illustration, that an absence of judicial process doesn’t imply innocence.

    Exactly Swampy

Th epolice did not think he was guilty of anything, ie he broke no law but the media and National, quite rightly were holding him to a higher than minimum standard.

One of the BIG differences being Wong is in Key’s Party, Peters was not in Clark’s.

But as I keep saying Key promised HIGHER standards than Labour
