Key caught lying……..again

Posted by on October 26th, 2010

John Key said he helped arrange the meeting between Julia Gillard and Phil Goff.

Nonsense.

Arranged through Labour Party contacts. Some of us have known her since before she was a Minister.

Update

From morning report :

John Key says Phil Goff let him know he was heading across the Tasman and he provided all the support Mr Goff would need to make sure it’s a successful visit

and

“Phil Goff spoke to me yesterday to let me know that he’d be in Australia tomorrow and, y’know, we’ve given him all the support that he would need to make sure it’s a successful visit

Just to reiterate Key provided no support whatsoever.

Monty, I’m sure Goff was very well received by Gillard and Rudd. :-D (Jill and Kev :-D ). He is important, he is our next PM! 8O !

    That’s true Anne, :-D

Well, what did anyone expect from Key and his cronies? Honesty?? The claim fits the spin to make Key look like the Mr Fixit of the South Pacific. He’ll be spun as the Deal Maker Supreme if Warner Bros screw the NZ taxpayers for 30% tax breaks, He’ll be spun as the Arch Negotiator who rescued NZ from the clutches of an 80 member Trade Union and the Great Coach when Team Adidas run onto the field at the RWC. None of which will be true but that won’t matter to Crosby-Textor who have painted him as the State House boy who has made good… even though that claim, too, is somewhat questionable.

    Hon. Trev,

the NZPA report says something completely different to the words that you put into John Key’s mouth:

Mr Key said he was relaxed about it.

“I mean he rang me on Sunday to tell me he was going. Normally the leader of the Opposition has to write and I certainly did that when I was the leader of the Opposition, but I also saw John Howard when I was leader of the Opposition and he was prime minister so look, at the end of the day, I’m fine with it. I’ll be seeing Julia Gillard in Vietnam in the weekend.”

Mr Key said he offered the assistance of New Zealand diplomats in Australia and would have offered further support if Mr Goff had written to him earlier.

So Key in no way claimed he he helped arrange it. He offered assistance – as one would hope he would.

Oh we’ve already covered that angle off earlier in the thread and decided that Trev is right and you are wrong.

  5. jennifer says:

Relax, Trevor, the Prime Minister knows all too well that the media will not question, even in their own minds, what he says, even when he is directly contradicting what he said yesterday. How did he manage to put the entire press gallery on mogadon?

So Goff needed no support, and Key provided no support. What’s the lie supposed to be?

    Trevor

    you said…

“John Key said he helped arrange the meeting between Julia Gillard and Phil Goff.”

    NZPA said….

“John Key says Phil Goff let him know he was heading across the Tasman”

    These 2 statements are contradictory.

It is good form for Phil Goff to let the PM know.

It is good form for the PM to let MFAT know so that if any diplomatic support is needed, it could be readily available.

Trevor, you are full of crap on this occasion and an apology would be warranted, however I suspect we shall wait in vain.

Hey while you’re waiting, perhaps you could try holding your breath too?

  9. ghostwhowalksnz says:

The Key apologists seem to forget Keys lies
He was even brazen enough to lie outright to two NZ Herald senior journalists before he became PM in August 2007 regarding the Therapeutic medicines legislation

  10. Pedrovsky says:

Evil lying Tory. Good snooping Trev… Key’ll be sliding down to 8% soon and Goff will be up on Key’s 50+%

  11. Anne says:

Key has just lied again. Announcing that the Hobbit movies will stay in NZ, he’s blamed the unions. Bullshit… bullshit… bullshit. It’s the money and it always was! The unions were taken for a ‘dirty tricks’ ride. Not entirely their fault, but there was some naivety.

I expect Labour to hammer… and hammer.. and hammer the govt. over this. If you take it lying down, you will be ultimately portrayed by the MSM as weak.

  12. Spud says:

    8O:-D:o … you’re being sarcastic, right? :-(

  13. Spud says:

Sorry, Anne, your comment must have been spammed, I meant Pedrovsky’s comment. 8O

  14. Anne says:

    Guessed that Spud.
It was moderated. Too many b——ts probably.

  15. Spud says:

:-D Good to see you, the Hobbit thread is fiery. 8O
