Cropp riding again – shocking

Posted by on October 17th, 2010

I’ve blogged about Lisa Cropp before and spoken in the House about her.  She is someone who has been found to use methamphetamine over a period of time when she was New Zealand’s leading jockey – gaining considerable advanage during which time she broke a number of records. Unfortunately that included riding the Chief Justice’s horse while she was before the courts in a massive delaying action.

She is a disgrace and should not be allowed to ride.

I’m shocked to read in the HoS that she is riding again in Aussie:-

Last year Cropp was disqualified from riding for nine months on methamphetamine charges and ordered to pay fines and costs of nearly $100,000. New Zealand racing authorities say she has not applied to race again here and there is no barrier to her riding in Melbourne.

what do suggest she does for the rest of her life Trevor .. live off the dole?
Act have a 3 strikes policy, you seem to have a 1 strike policy??

  2. KJT says:

Getting tough on crime without attacking underlying causes is a waste of time and money.

    http://kjt-kt.blogspot.com/2010/08/on-reducing-crime.html

Remember this. It has been well buried, but it is sensible.
I would have more respect for a politician who tried to inform the public on realistic ways of reducing crime instead of pandering to those who want to jail everyone.

If Cropp has learn’t her lesson, Like anyone else she should have a second chance.

  3. Jacko says:

yeah trev – everyone who gets into trouble with drugs should be punished for the rest of their lives. That includes 50% of country who have tried pot, aye trev? What a close minded grumpy old man. About time labour cleared out the old guard.

  4. Trevor Mallard says:

Cropp repeatedly rode half ton horses putting lives in danger and drove all over the country. Of course she should work but nowhere where she puts others in danger.

  5. KJT says:

Please don’t troll. Stick to topic. Trevor

  6. jabba says:

come on Trevor .. are you saying she should never drive a car?? She made a HUGE mistake in her life and wants to move on after doing her time .. we do that with criminal (murders etc) so why not Lisa.

  7. KJT says:

Trever you are saying Labour deserves another chance despite the horrendous effects of the 1980′ Labour Government. They did a lot more harm than a jockey could.

  8. KJT says:

Trevor. I do not think that attacking an ordinary citizens employment individually like this is something that an MP could or should be doing.

If politicians were to be held as accountable for their actions as people are in my profession are, or if politicians had been made to adhere to the standards of accountability and competence they require of other professions, there would be very few left in the house.

Roger Douglas would be in Jail.

  9. Red under the Bed says:

Well if she learned for her mistaken then give her another chance.

  10. Cactus Kate says:

How can using meth give you an advantage as a rider? It’s hardly performance enhancing I would have thought. Yep she’s a naughty girl but why pick her out as any different to anyone else?

  11. sean14 says:

Trevor – fair enough that you don’t like drug cheats, but as said in the article:

“Her penalty has been served, her fines were paid and I cleared her because she was under no embargo from here.”

Why do you believe she should continue to be penalised?

If it’s because she rode half-ton horses while impaired, I look forward to your new policy on recidivist drink-drivers, who routinely operate multi-ton vehicles while impaired. What are you going to do with them?

  12. Leopold says:

Aww com’on – Agree with all the above comments. The horse wasn’t on Meth – would be the only way to enhance performance. Are you trying to outflank SST on the right?

  13. Spud says:

    @Trev – :o

“Methamphetamine cannot make a jockey ride better, but critics say its ability to sustain riders through longer periods creates an unfair advantage.”

suppresses appetite too, so is a way to control weight for a jockey.
It can cause moods to change suddenly, and dangerously so. I’m concerned for the fact she has a daughter and is doing it. If you been up for days it can cause hallucinations etc, through lack of sleep.

Unless you have been in a car with someone that has been up for days and then suddenly swerves into oncoming traffic to miss an imaginary log in the middle of the road, you cannot even begin to comprehend the danger of what Trevor is on about.

  15. Spud says:

    :-( That’s awful A Mother :-( :-( :-(
I know what insomnia is like, but this would truely create a nutter :-(

  16. Lindsay says:

Rode well on Saturday too. Won’t be long before she is back in the winners circle. Good luck to her. Shame she is lost to NZ like so many other trainers and jockeys who have to leave here because the industry cannot sustain them. That’s some sort of punitive attitude you have there Trevor.

  17. Trevor Mallard says:

A Mother gets it. Allows people to stay awake much longer periods and for those driving round the country this is dangerous. Also appears to sharpen focus – but encourages risk taking. Speed was used in experiments of various sorts by military people years ago.

  18. Spud says:

    :-( speed with speed = bad :-(

    :o – psst, I can see you Trev :P … on tv :-D

  19. LabRat says:

Trevor – shouldn’t the question be whether Cropp has reformed? If so (and it must be easy to monitor for drugs in her system) then isn’t the correct way of thinking that someone who has paid their penalty and has reformed is to be allowed to return to a normal life?
Your opinion seems to be that she should continue to pay for what she did.

  20. Lindsay says:

That’s all very well Trevor but isn’t she more likely to be drug free working in an industry where she is going to be screened than if she was sitting in NZ on the dole, which has no obligation to be drug free?

  21. Ross Bell says:

@Trevor Mallard – FYI – Speed is *still* being used by military. “Go pills” for US pilots for example.

We’re publishing a report on this in November, and will make sure to send you a copy.

  22. ross says:

    Troll banned Trevor

  23. Spud says:

I betting she’s cropping a lot of flak right now! :-D

  26. Trevor Mallard says:

Lisa – the threat implied in the last part of your first rant might work around stables but means nothing to me. I note that your comments are sent are made in caps at about 3am Aussie time but leave it to readers to decide the reason you are not sleeping well. I understand very well the difference between the Rules of Drugfree Sport in NZ and the wide variety of workplace arrangements. If you had been tested under the Sports rules you would have been tested repeatedly – at home as well as at work – you would have been closely supervised while the sample was taken and the sample would have been split into A and B. And given the evidence of your repeated behavior you would be banned for life. Racecourses and roads would be safer places.

  27. Dave says:

How is this important to anyone in New Zealand? Is it now policy to harangue an ordinary person who has served whatever sentence she has served? Why have you singled her out? How is she any different than the myriad of dunk and drugged drivers on our roads, yet she seems to be a focus for you, for a ‘crime’ she has already been punished for. What a waste of time, when Labour according to last nights poll, have far more to worry about than Lisa Cropp!

  28. Trevor Mallard says:

Dave maybe you should read Cropp’s two comments and think carefully about why I have (in a gentle and reasonable way) suggested that she might not be safe in charge of a horse or a car.

  29. Lisa says:

Bed sores are creeping in due to not leaving it for a week from my recent skull fracture, thanks for asking I’m doing great and plan to continue my riding in Melbourne after fully recovered. to your question more than happy to be tested home work bed roof stable, car I have been and were the most randomly selected jockey in NZ and proud of the 50 clear samples there after and still counting.
Once the chain of custody was allocated away from certin forced into early retirement race course inspector trained nurses and clean cups were supplied, then why should ther be another problem. I agree safer racing and roads.
my behaviour? did you read that from the unauthorised dillon “book” even I thought you would be above that little man wouldnt read such crap or my behaviour? winning three consecitive premerships and breaking a record of wins in a season, thank you my behaviour was outstanding I agree.

  31. Trevor Mallard says:

Lisa you won using P – I don’t admire you.

  32. Harry says:

This a complete waste of time.

    @ Mallard

Fine, maybe she’s not fit to drive a car or ride a horse. Still doesn’t make sense why you’re wasting your time on this one person when you could be earning the salary I pay you doing real stuff.

    Just a thought.

  33. H says:

You go girl. I believe you are winning over there. I back you whenever I see you are racing. Boo bloody sucks to Mr Mallard. When his life looks perfect and lacking in mistakes and errors of judgement then maybe his comments will be of significance.
