Submission from AFFCO/Talley’s

Posted by on October 6th, 2010

Today was the final day hearing submissions on the Employment Relations and Holidays Bills.  And it ended with the most extreme submission received from employers – good old Talley’s – now AFFCO -TGL. That’s Talley’s, who locked out workers for six weeks at Open Country Cheese recently and who defied Employment Court orders.  That’s Talley’s, who in the 1990′s was of the only employers (or perhaps the only) who had a ruling saying their contract was harsh and oppressive – and that was under the Employment Contracts Act!  That’s Talley’s, whose employment relations views haven’t come into the 20th century, let alone the 21st.

I think this video from the SFWU website sums it up pretty well .

In the case of teachers failing to comply with their empoyers instructions seems a pretty good reason to sack them.

Three strikes and they are out.

So what did their submission say? I’ll admin that I haven’t checked the website for their written statement / PDF yet…

On principle I don’t buy any of their products, or any products from the related companies.

I have to say, that video made me chuckle a little :)

What’s everyone else like? Is it just Talleys? Are they the only ones?

How come we hear about 1% from unions about those companies that practice good employment practices and 99% about those companies that don’t.

And given that the publicised examples are few and far between and that almost all of us haven’t ever experienced “bad’ employers not once ever, I would have thought that if the unions didn’t want to push their own barrow, it would have been in their interest to promote “best practice.”

I was howling with laughter. He he he he he :-)

I, personally, have experienced several. What you’ve done here is put up an assertion that is not based in reality. IMO, the reason why we’re not seeing more published is because of the lack of union membership.

it would have been in their interest to promote “best practice.”
They try but people, like the present government, ignore them or call them liars without any shred of proof and when proof shows the union correct and not lying it’s ignored as well.

Have you. I’ve been in the workforce for twenty five years, and I haven’t. I’ve experienced some unpleasant people who were managers, but they were subject to the normal rule of law, so it has never been a problem for me, and were it ever, then that’s why the courts are there.

    Seems to work, really well.

Haven’t seen any Dickensian workplaces, well since forever, really.
