OMG, Christchurch quake due to our sins

Posted by Brendon Burns on September 9th, 2010

This is not my nightly blog. That’s next and I haven’t the energy after spending a day visiting good, even godly Christchurch people who’ve suffered calamity to respond to this crap sent today, but perhaps some of you might…

His email is mlegg@victory.org.nz

To All Honourable member of the House of Parliament.

It’s great to hear all the good things happening as people begin to help one another in Christchurch..

So refreshing since, night after night, year after year, all we have heard in the main from the media, is murder after murder, Sexual abuse abounding ,child abuse, home invasion, theft, and violence, shooting police, fraud, court case after court case, and everything so very negative… its actually promoting evil..

Then they (TV) have the audacity to say, GOOD NIGHT!

Our good and merciful, and loving Lord has protected the Christchurch people in a miraculous way.

No deaths… Amazing!

However, I do believe this Quake is a sign also to all New Zealanders, that the Nation as a whole has to wake- up to serious mistakes along the way.

Often these kind of acts, (eg.Quakes) are outside man’s control, and are warnings to tell us we are going off track..

NZ cannot go on murdering 18,000 unborn children, Undermining the God given authority of parents to discipline their children, Legalising prostitution , homosexual unions,( in kind to marriage), allowing youngsters to easily have access to alcohol, allowing repeat offenders to drive and kill.

The punishments are not matching the crime, and on and on the list goes. These acts bring a curse on the Nation.

The message is;… stop doing these things, or something worse will come upon you all.

If we don’t learn the lesson now from this quake, many more will follow.

I remind you, whilst the majority of you have strongly endorsed the ETS scheme (Global warming) I believe it’s actually a smokescreen to reality.

Jesus said; in the last days there will be earthquakes, and nation rising against Nation. It’s so obvious now whose right.

There has been a huge number of Quakes/floods/tsunami’s, racial conflicts over the past 5 years.

These are only a foretaste and sign we are in the age of sorrows. The initial times of the end of this age we live in.

The message is loud and clear that we are to do things right, and not compromise on half- baked policies.

I ask you one question.

When 85% plus New Zealanders vote against a moral bill…” why do Parliament legislate the alternative?”

That’s not democracy.

“Where is the conscience of Parliament?”

Hope we all learn together the truth and walk in it.

 Your faithfully,

Max Legg.

Snr. Minister.

VCC.Auckland.

Ps. You might be interested that a Pastor from our church spoke in a church in Kaipoi two weeks ago on the subject;

“God is going to shake all nations so that which cannot be shaken will remain.”

He then showed videos of all the earthquakes we have had in the world over the past 5 years.

Amazing, they experienced an earthquake at its centre a week later.

I think we need to give thought to our ways

Well, that didn’t take long, did it?

  2. Monty says:

I had a door knocking Jahova Witness come knocking on Saturday morning. I told him I was not interested in talking religion but happy to discuss politics. Interesting conversation followed but when he started rattling on about earthquakes and the end of time and foretold in the bible, I had enough and called bulsh*t and told him to get a life. What these people cannot understand is that earthquakes happen – not as a test from god but as a regular geological event. Tossers the bunch of them. How about they get on the end of a spade.

  3. Spud says:

8O Man that dude must live a really stressed out life! 8O
I’ve spent today with a transexual buddy (wants to be a dude), a bisexual pal and an alcoholic :-D Good times :-D

  4. He should move to Gainesville, Florida

  5. sammy says:

Actually, the bill to bring back “the God given authority of parents to discipline their children”, was defeated in Parliament this week, and nobody seems to have noticed or cared at all.

This obviously “proves” that God sent the earthquake to distract the media and save our children. Or whatever.

  6. Spud says:

“He should move to Gainesville, Florida” Sounds like a dive 8O

  7. Red under the Bed says:

I never knew we lived in America… lol
Sound like Brian Tamaki and his posses at the Destiny Church are up to there old tricks again :D (more like Density Church).

    @spud
You right, that guy must be stressed.

  8. sammy says:

If you want a laugh, just Google “Max Legg” amd “John Key”, and read the comments on John Key’s website.

It turns out Mr Legg is a big fan of our Prime Minister! (though to be fair, there’s no indication that the sentiment is returned). :)

  9. Spud says:

    @Red and sammy LOL :-D :-D :-D !

  10. Someone please explain the following terms and concepts to our friend (using small words where possible):

    Tectonic plates
    Faultlines
    Pressure
    Time

Resume your lives people, nothing to see here…

  11. Loota says:

The only thing worse than using a devastating earthquake to push your own private political agenda is…

  12. Spud says:

Tectonic plates – The pressure lids that keep hell from lavaring up! 8O
Faultlines – Cracks in God’s perfect earth, created by the faults of mankind. :-(
Pressure – the stampede from the drunks going from the pub to the brothel causing the pressure lids to depress on Hell’s lava. :o !
Time – The interval between the sinning and the earthquake …

  13. Craig Ranapia says:

I’m kind of disappointed to find out that God wasn’t trying to get the Sodomites and Sapphists — and missed Ponsonby by a significant margin. Ever since Sodom and Gomorrah, God’s aim has been crap.

  14. Sean says:

If Max Legg wants to live in an Old Testament world, with its bizarre theories of cause and effect, he will.

Personally Brendon, I prefer my Church and State separated, please feel free to balance my opinion against his.

Sounds like it was a good night Spud.

  15. smhead says:

Max isn’t the only one, and sadly it looks like he’s not even original. Not so long ago when there was a big earthquake in Iran, an Islamic cleric said the earthquake was caused by promiscuous women.

  16. Dorothy says:

makes you wonder who god was punishing 15000 years ago, the last time that fault shook, when no-one lived in NZ??

  17. tracey says:

Dorothy, I can answer that… there was NO quake 15,000 years ago because God only invented earth 6000 years ago ;)

Strange Destiny church havent announced public works for the HCHCH folks yet???

  18. The email was entirely inappropriate, insensitive and hopelessly zealous but I also wonder if it was reasonable for you to encourage people to ridicule this individual? MPs have many privileges and more than their fair share of impositions; I think that probably includes tolerating this kind of misguided correspondence without reaction.

Sorry Brendon, but I think you’ve made an error here though I remain very very supportive of your fantastic efforts to help so many people in Christchurch.

  19. Clarke says:

The e-mail perfectly illustrates why extreme religious conviction – of whatever stripe – should be treated as a mental illness.

  20. Sean says:

Ever since Sodom and Gomorrah, God’s aim has been crap.

    Brilliant.

  21. Was there a particular reason you specifically wanted to bring thie fellow’s email address to our attention?

  22. Spud says:

8O:o I don’t think this dude’s email address should be on here! :-(

  23. smhead says:

Why give this loon any publicity at all brendon. Like the nutter who wants to burn lots of korans, it just gives ammunition for people to hate christians.

  24. Herodotus says:

So Brendon you recieve mail from a voter, ridicule his beliefs then publish his email address. What other beliefs are you going to treat like this: Shi’ite,Sunni,Zoroastrian,Buddhism?
Just because you may not go with this individuals beliefs to publish his email address is a mean spirited way of dealing with this. Is this to be the template for Labour Mp’s to treat corrospencde that you may not agree with like this? So if we agree with your beliefs we will be listened to and treated well, but if we display opposing views we will be open to the public. No wonder many have distain in the manner thast parliament operates. Will any corrospondence that is sent to you be treated in the same way. Or opposing views are best kept quiet as a form of threat operates, how does this stand with Open Governement that Lab is putting forward. Open as long as “us” in Lab agree with you?
Brendon be careful how you in future act as you may start to stop listening to the people, just like Lab did a few years ago.

  25. Darren says:

Sadly the extreme views and comments of a few dont reflect the bulk of the God fearing Christians out there. Within hours of the earthquake my church was out helping to feed and provide relief for those in need, and is still hard at work today without any judgement. Its time for love, compassion and kindness, not judgement.

On behalf of 99% of the Church Sorry

  26. Was there a particular reason you specifically wanted to bring thie fellow’s email address to our attention?

Because it quite clearly shoes how a self proclaimed representative of the “Prince of Peace” is willing to use a tradegy to push an ignorant agenda…

The fact people this dispicable live in NZ is a shame to us all – religious and non-religious alike… I think the poster is quite justified in highlighting this level of insensitivity, bigotry and naievity from a member of his community people listen to…

  27. sammy says:

As I mentioned above, Mr Legg is all over John Key’s website. He includes his own website address in his comments there.

If you are giving public advice to the Prime Minister, with your own contact details, you’re not exactly a shrinking violet.

No need to waste any sympathy there.

  28. A Mother says:

There will always be extreme points of view and people like this will come out during this kind of disaster.

  29. Herodotus says:

Sammy- He has included his web site not a MP, who has decided to do it. If yo or I sned something to an MP (Either or both of us maybe well known) viewing our support or dissatisfaction whould you want this with contact details to be divulged, or our name that the pseudom we all go under protects?
It seems as if only doctors, ministers and reporters are the only professions to be trusted. MP’s will use our details selectively for their own advantage, just listen to question time “… has the minister received reports for …” yes I have to support my standing on this issue, too bad about the others that do not support.
Jeremy “I think the poster is quite justified in highlighting this level of insensitivity, bigotry and naievity from a member of his community people listen to…” we are only dependant upon what that MP wished to disclose and what agenda they are seeking.

  30. bryce says:

i couldnt read it all. rubbish.

having said that I am finding the conspiracy blog funny

  31. sammy says:

    @Herodotus

Read my comment again, slowly. I referred to PUBLIC comments on the Prime Minister’s PUBLIC website. It doesn’t get any more PUBLIC than that.

If you would like help learning how to use Google, to find out more about Mr Legg’s PUBLIC statements, I will be happy to assist. I charge $150 per hour, plus GST. Payable in advance. Cheers.

  32. Sammy, you make a good point. However, I still think it was a mistake to publish this correspondent’s email address(despite agreeing the content of his email is offensive). I think Brendon may wish to simply remove it.

  33. Herodotus says:

Sammy, his contact details maybe easy to find out, be it email, phone address etc. Yet I still also do not think it wise for anyone especially MP’s on blog sites to release this, unless they have been given permission to do so.
p.s. thanks for your generous advice re $150/hr unfortunately your rate is a bit steep for me

  34. SJR says:

The people of Haiti are deeply religious. I wonder where God was for them.

  35. Red under the Bed says:

Has any one noticed that the e-mailer (Max Legg) is from Auckland, so he wasn’t even affected by the quake! It just show you how wrong this email is. Max is using the quake to push his own views/agenda and is not even given a thought to those who have been affected by the quake. Then he sends an email to an MP who has been affected by the quake.

I say this email has been sent to a lot of MPs in hope he has been heard. Its just insensitive and really it spamming!
Of course this sort of thing should be deleted straight away.

  36. DeepRed says:

Poe’s Law: Any sufficiently advanced fundamentalism is indistinguishable from parody.

  37. LabRat says:

“Of course this sort of thing should be deleted straight away.”

Or, you could do what Brendon did and post it on the Labour party blog. Then you could delete comments (like mine from yesterday) that highlight what a dog whistle it is for everyone to have a ‘free shot at the loony’.
I’ll ask again Brednon (and expect to be deleted again, but at least I’ll have a screenshot this time) – would you have had the guts to post a similar email if it was from a Muslim?

Labrat what is your point? Clare

  38. bbfloyd says:

And the award for the longest incomprehensible rant goes to HERODOTUS!!!!.

you also rated a commendation in the partisan bigot category, but you lost points for cramming too many different rants into the same paragraph.

  39. bbfloyd says:

Labrat… you have just nudged Herodotus out of his position in the award for “partisan bigot”.

you lose points for failing to show any attempt at pseudo intellectual aspiration, but the day is young.. get out your thesaurus..

  40. David says:

the wages of sin is death,
soon you will all face the judgement seat of God,
have a nice day (if you can),

  41. tracey says:

Herodotus, where do you stand on PB’s public naming of the details of beneficiairies incomes?

  42. LabRat says:

“Labrat what is your point? Clare”

That Brendon’s post is “a dog whistle … for everyone to have a ‘free shot at the loony’.”

I agree with the right for Brendon to have free speech, but question his wisdom/maturity for posting this. While I may not agree with Mr Legg, I don’t think it is a good look for a politician to be mocking someone like this. If he was a political opponent then that would be a different story, but if anything from what Legg wrote he seems to be slightly anti-National since they passed the ETS and maintained the S59 amendment.

As a litmus test, would you reproduce this post on Labour’s campaign material next year?

  43. Herodotus says:

Tracey- PB public outing is fine with me EXCEPT by giving personnel details of the 2 women. Sure quote their situation but not to declare info that would identify them as to town/city let alone any more personnel details. Even if some of these details where already out there.
To my many other followers !!!! Brendons conscious disclosure of the email address was for some reason, I ask what are your motives? I can only conclude that you want those on this site to contact Max Legg.

  44. tracey says:

Ok, just checking that you dont mind private information being divulged by ministers, you just draw the line at an email being posted on red alter.

I dont believe the email needed to be published, but it’s always interesting to see where different people draw the line.

You object to an email but dont mind disclosure of private information in abuse of a ministerial position to further a political agenda.

  45. Spud says:

@Darren – yes, most church goers are good people :-)

  46. Spud says:

@Hero – Agreed that the email address was going too far :-(

  47. Carolyn Stirling says:

Actually I was thinking on Saturday how blessed we were as a nation not to have fatalities in Christchurch.

I think Mr Leggs email was in poor taste.

  48. wendy says:

i support the pastor.God bless you.
