General debate – Adams on quake

Posted by Trevor Mallard on September 8th, 2010

MPs in Canterbury are doing a great job. Spoken to a couple of ours and they are all putting in an enormous effort. Work down there is counting as being in Parliament and Select Committees are organising themselves to allow for absences.

Not often I post a National Party speech but this one from Amy Adams captures the anguish in a way that transcends party politics.

    Well spoken! 8O

As a member of the Labour team in Selwyn, I appreciate Amy’s speech, which covered so much of what we are all feeling here. It’s been great to have the support of MPs from both sides of the House.

  3. Loota says:

    Wow…she was outstanding and empathetic.

  4. Peter Tuffley says:

That was one helluva good speech.

As a (temporary) ex-pat, it makes me so proud to be a New Zealander to see politics put aside in a time like this. I know Amy Adams personally and know that her home was (is? As far as I know it’s going to need a full rebuild) around 2km from the epicentre of the quake.

As a Cantabrian (I may be overseas, but the eye doesn’t grow back!), my heart aches for all those who’ve lost homes and livelihoods. It was certainly surreal to see a friend’s flat, minus a street-facing wall on the front page of CNN!
