THIS WEEK ON BACK BENCHES: Watch Wallace Chapman, Damian Christie, the Back Benches Panel and special guests discuss the week’s hottest topics!
STATE OF PREPAREDNESS: Christchurch has been devastated by a 7.1 earthquake. Which made the rest of the country say, “There before the grace…” and to take stock of whether or not they were prepared for the big one to hit them. Are we prepared? Are we prepared on a local level and are we prepared on a national level? And do you know where your torch is or have enough water?
ECONOMICS OF AN EARTHQUAKE: What are the economics of an earthquake? What is the financial toll New Zealand will face? How will we be able to pay for the recovery? How will we help business owners? What happens to the businesses already on the brink due to the recession? What’s the ultimate cost? Where is the money coming from? How long will it take recover?
LIVE pub politics from the Backbencher Pub: Wednesday, 8th of September. Our Panel: Green MP Dr. Kennedy Graham, Labour MP David Cunliffe, and National MP Louise Upston.
why not get the backbenchers guys to do a gold coin at the door for the earthquake fund?
“Back Benches” (or should that be “Backbenchers”?
) makes me wish I lived in Wellington.Balance deleted Trevor
“There before the grace…”
I think you will find the expression is “There but for [not before] the grace [of God]“

To be honest! I can’t believe just after a few day people are already thinking (mainly the media) ‘how much would it cost the country’.
I know it a serious question but I think it just show we are all a bit too obsessed with money. Maybe wait till next week then ask the question. People in CHCH are still in shock over the whole event and they still just try to figure out what had happen to them
.
Hopeful the aftershocks will stop soon and we will be on the road to recovery.
