Silly idea number 12 – what do you think?

Posted by Pete Hodgson on August 31st, 2010

Breathlessly announce that it is Government policy to catch up with Australia’s GDP/capita by 2025. Forget to spell out how. Then discover that we are heading the other way.  Go into denial of the bleeding obvious, relying on a hilarious attempt at obfuscation, rather an acknowledging the truth and playing a longer game.

    Can’t say that Labour did any better for this country. That’s when the rot set in.

  2. Loota says:

    Shame the real Rebecca hasn’t returned to Red Alert (come back please, wherever you are!), this string of imposters seem to be well lame in comparison.

  3. Tracey says:

    Yes, it didnt start with Muldoon, then Douglas, then Richardson, NOPE it’s all down to 1999 to 2008.

    God life is simple.

    Looking forward to stepping into the teaching role and helping out during the strike Rebecca? Teaching 30+ children for 6 hours, as opposed to supervising them? I’m sure you will relish the opportunity to step up to the plate and show how simple this teaching lark is.

    I like these posts of yours Pete, they remind me of a fourth form social studies classroom debate

    Keep up the good work

  5. Spud says:

    This question highlights that you need to add another answer: Psychopathic because…

    Then discover that we are heading the other way. Go into denial of the bleeding obvious, relying on a hilarious attempt at obfuscation, rather an acknowledging the truth and playing a longer game.

    …that is the actions of a psychopath.

    and yet we are treated to a daily dose of fanfare and praise from our esteemed media colleagues. fortunately, the only people i know who believe the rubbish spoken are the journos themselves, and a few selected wingnuts (as above).

    ps.. for you c, that was remarkably erudite.

    @Spud

    I was being a subtle in my sarcasm…maybe a little to subtle

  9. John W says:

    Catching up with OZ is a nonsense. Tapping peoples fear of getting behind and using that to argue for measures that only create a larger inequities is all we see happening from the PM – the banker.

    Where are his plans for NZ to own more banks in the catchup process. Oz banks suck a lot out of our economy – a bit like leeches.

    He would get rid of our Kiwibank outright if he could. Public reaction means he can only do it by stealth.

  10. Reds under the bed says:

    Trouble is NZ is falling behind Aussie is SPEEDING up (god for BID). For most of the past two decades Aussie growth has been the highest in the OCED, so isn’t just NZ falling behind aussie, every other 1st world nation is as well, even the States is falling behind (ignore PPP GDP cause it to with reality).

    Why, cause Aussie got all the good stuff that can’t be found else where, like nickel, aluminum, uranium etc…

    Plus it help for a long time the Aussie had compulsory super annunciation as well and no fire sale $1 privatization, unlike roger and his “mates”.

    So if we want to get ahead lets get our A.C.T together,
    so if we Hide the Key, we might just get a chance to get ahead.

    Or just invade Australia, which would be possible once we get rid of DonKey whos a pussy, he would never go to war to with any one, look at the way he bows for the Chinese, even the ginga wasn’t scared of him, mind you he an Aussie.

    A little reminder that catching Oz by 2025 is part of the Nat Act coalition agreement. Two years in to government and the gap is widening……

  12. tracey says:

    Anyone tempted to challenge Pete’s last statement, here is the Agreement to which her refers, scroll down to joint aspirations

    While you are there, note that Heather Roy’s Cabinet Position makes no reference to “Deputy Leader”

    “I was being a subtle in my sarcasm…maybe a little to subtle” No, I got the sarcasm, my response was counter sarcasm :-D

    @Spud

    Blogs demonstrate the difficulty of getting ones ideas across without the benefit of nuance, body language or inflection of tone

    @Pete

    So what is Labours ideas to help bridge the gap…or do you think its not possible to?

  15. Red under the Bed says:

    The solution to NZ-Aussie gap is for NZ to invade Australia, problem solved, no Australia, no NZ AUSSIE gap!
    Easy….

    Chris73, your about subtle as they come

  16. Spud says:

    @Chris 73 and Red agreed :-D
