Silly idea number 10 – what do you think?
Posted by Pete Hodgson on August 26th, 2010
Come up with the idea that lots of rich people would like to retire to Godzone and bring their money with them. Ignore strong official advice to the contrary.
Announce with due fanfare. Wait 3 months. Discover that only 12 have applied (of whom 7 were coming anyway), and that none have yet been granted.

Shania Twain is here, right? Its the sound of success, ladies and gentlemen.
Shania Twain has been in New Zealand far longer than the current government and possibly longer than it’s predecessor government – you know the Labour led one that emptied the coffers.
If that was meant to be a solution then surely it is an admission relying business as usual.
Answers won’t be in that area. Silly stop gap “more of the same” thinking leading us further into the mire.
Money is not the answer and neither is relying on travel.

Buying up around lake Wanaka and jeopardising the natural beauty…
Spud shes spent loads of money so people like you and loota can wander around the place for free.
Why do you support a free loader like Hodgson whos life revolves around thinking up silly ideas.
he needs to get a real job.
probably 2011
There is nothing wrong with the idea – just isn’t working apparently…
Mark.m – don’t be too tough on Hodgson. This is a step up from going through John Key’s rubbish.
Apparently Bloomberg magazine thinks the policy is a cracker as one of the US money speculators owning property in NZ once employed Key to gamble on his behalf on the currency markets. The report didn’t tell their international readers that the Key policies weren’t working and that this one was a crock.
you are just so sad and nasty – this is a pointless exercise – but hey – if it makes you feel better then please carry on. Can’t you find any more trivial issues to pursue?
Stuff it, I’ll bite.
Mr Hodgson, what on earth is the point of these ‘polls’?
@ Sean14, wrong question. What on earth is the point of these silly ideas, is the question. Answer? To make it look like Johnboy and his cronies have a clue.
I confess I am rapidly coming to favour the idea of an early election. I understand that you are planning to step down at the next election and that will mean the end of these silly blogs.
Never have blogs been better named.
I realise that I don’t have to read Red Alert but some of the items are interesting. Unfortunately your ’silly ideas’
drive me nuts.
Please, please give up on them.
Keep ‘em up – Dont let anyone tell you otherwise.
I find that they brighten my day. Its just a pity that Im not laughing with you.
But it does show the depth of labour these days. You come across as a spent force, with a total lack of ideas.
Keep it up.
“Spud shes spent loads of money so people like you and loota can wander around the place for free.” Um, as a NZ citizen I could always wander around the place for free
“Why do you support a free loader like Hodgson whos life revolves around thinking up silly ideas.” – Hodgson has worked his b*** off for many years to help this country
And those silly ideas he’s critiquing are the governments not his
“he needs to get a real job. probably 2011″ He is retiring, a great loss to politics, but the dude deserves it!
@Alwyn, sean 14 and Monty – cheer up, it’s Friday!
I’m going to have a vodka at five
!
Thing is Spud, i doubt you’ve ever wondered around anywhere outside your sofa or a bottle store.
Silly idea 11 – The government decides one of the most anti-whaling countries on Earth is now pro (as long as we get a Japanese FTA)…
Thanks Spud for stating the bleeding obvious: these silly ideas are the Government’s not mine. Some are little some are big. All are silly, in my view. Smile and wave. More next week.
@Simon – Oooh the words of someone who hasn’t even met me!
You’re WRONG!
But I would like to know where you got that crazy idea from ?
This isn’t a rhetorical question, please answer.
Keep it up Pete
Spud, my magic 8 ball predicts you have internet on your mobile and your home page is the Labour blog…
LOL
Well I do have internet on my mobile
I love my mobile
Pete, why can we not post to your silly idea 11? When you tax from all of us so that a few priviledged can get govt subsidies to contribute to their pensions (Kiwisaver). Most people struggle to cope living on their wage/welfare. Yet we get taxed and then watch as $1024 is given away to those who can afford to contribute to KS. Nat idea of “Take an axe to Kiwisaver and halve it” at least means that the rich do not profit as much from Labs tax give away. Until all are treated equal (Comp KS for all) then the rhetoric that has been expressed of “for the many not the few” is a bit hallow. Give govt assistance to the rich as both Nat and Lab do !!
“Pete, why can we not post to your silly idea 11?” Technical error, it happens to a lot of the MPs. I know you’re as keen to find out what it is as I am
