Silly idea number 5 – what do you think ?

Posted by on August 16th, 2010

Decide that the New Zealand economy needs a “step change” and that mining on the conservation estate is the way to achieve it.  Ignore the “sustainable” part of the sustainable economic development.  (How many times can you mine gold?)

Blame Lucy Lawless and Robyn Malcolm for being emotional, then note that 30,000 others begged to differ by marching down Queen Street, Auckland with them.

Then argue internally.  Then stage a complete U-turn, claiming it wasn’t really a U-turn at all.

I think this idea is :-

Actually I think all of the silly ideas are coming out of the Labour Party. Can you lot not say anything positive and constructive?

  2. Simon says:

    Old topic Pete.

  3. Monty says:

How sadly predictable you are. Go and take a holiday and try and think up some new ideas and policy.

  4. Loota says:

I love how all the NACTs are being forced to spin National’s failure to address the wage gap with Australia as being an ‘old topic’ and ‘predictable’.

Last I heard that wage gap was very much an issue, as was a lack of a plan from Bill and John to close it. P.Hodg is right on top of a current and topical problem.

  5. KJT says:

    It was actually very clever.
Everyone got the idea they were responding to public opinion while they quietly opened up non schedule four land behind our backs and got going with a few other worker bashing ideas at the same time.

  6. Simon says:

Excuse me Loota, i’m not a Nat voter so remove that slur. Pete’s post appears to be about mining, which has been discussed many times before on this site. The wider issue being the wage gap, again that debate has been flogged as much as it can be.

  7. dave says:

Hey, these “silly ideas” detract from the rest of the blog. This blog is above “silly ideas”. Can this be the last one?

  8. dave says:

Oh, and is there any reason why I am on moderation?
Don’t know off the top of my head Dave. Must have been something you said. I’ll take you out. But pelase take care. Clare

  9. Spud says:

    Cheer up Monty :-D
So Simon are you climategate Simon or the other one? 8O
Mining is a relevant issue, this is something we still need to keep an eye on :-(

  10. Gary Jones says:

    Relevant and topical.
NACTs would prefer people to forget.
But people need to keep a vigilant eye on this.

  11. Loota says:

Sorry Simon, I should have known better :embarrassed:

However I reckon as long as that wage gap exists, and is widening, the debate on it has been wholly insufficient and continues.

Unless we are running up the white flag of course.

  12. Mark M says:

    Mr Hodgson

why do you treat every issue as a joke.
If you want a genuine reflection of peoples veiw on a topic why not some options that dont reflect that you have obviously got to much time on your hands.
Your flippancy with serious issues does you and your party no credit

  13. I was one of those 30,000 marchers… I am happy with the outcome, we need mines but in the most spectacular parts of NZ’s conservation estate..? Daft…

  14. Spud says:

    Good man :-D

  15. Nicola Wood says:

@Simon it may be an “old” idea, and the Nats love that people say that – they want people to forget it before the next election. I think it’s up to Labour to not let that happen

  16. Pete Hodgson says:

To Mark M; no I don’t treat every idea as a joke but my vote for this one would be pure idiocy. And yours?
