The countdown is on…

Phil Goff launches Indianewslink June2010

The General Election maybe over a year away, but last Friday Phil Goff launched Indian Newslink’s official election page.

As pictured above, a number of Labour MPs were on hand for the launch, including Ross Robertson, Su’a William Sio, Carmel Sepuloni, Ashraf Choudhary, Carol Beaumont and Rajen Prasad.

I think this election page will add to Kiwis anticipation for the election.

Kiwi families are struggling under National’s recent policy and budget announcements.

GST increases and ETS mean that Kiwi families are put under further strain at a time when the world is coming out of the recession.

Kiwi families deserve better. Labour will ensure that tax-cuts are spread evenly over all wage earners and don’t just favour the rich.

After Labour worked hard to make student loans less of a burden on students with interest-free student loans, National has added an additional student loan fee of $40 per year.

This doesn’t give me any hope that National will keep the interest free student loan policy which was a legacy of the previous Labour government.

We’ll see how voters react next year.

    That is fantastic! :-D

  2. Ianmac says:

As Indian Newslink is non-partisan, it will be even more interesting to follow the trends. Watch this space.

Thought that the bonhommie in the photo Home page between Key and Goff was remarkable until they explained how that came about. :)

  3. Freemantle Doctor says:

Have you ever been beaten to the first post, Spud?
Excellent, I will be keeping an eye on this as the election nears.

  4. Rebecca says:

So will Labour reverse the ETS, GST & the student loan fee? And the NS too?

I suspect that most voters will expect Labour to promise to reverse all the things they have disagreed with National implementing before they consider voting them back in…

Great to see you have already started campaigning on increasing taxes! That’s likely to get you loads of votes…..NOT.

Yes the clearly were for the rich as it’s not like National dropped the rates across the board is it……!

  5. peter says:

The tax issue is real Pavlovian dog stuff, compared to most other countries our tax regime is pretty simple, the problem we face is that our Tax base is so small relative to our demands.

We need more immigrants, We are physically bigger in land area than Great Britain with only a fraction of their population.

Imagine how much better off we would be with say a population of 8 million … (just so long as we could spread them around NZ and not have the bulk of them in AKL)

  6. Tracey says:

Has national reversed all of labour’s policies yet, do they even plan to?

  7. Rebecca says:

    Tracey – what’s the relevance?

We’re on a Labour party blog site – in particular a post about next year’s election where they claim all the above policies are bad & that NZ as a whole hates them….so it is far more pertinent don’t you think to ask whether Labour will reverse them if re-elected?

  8. Dave says:

    Deleted personal abuse. Warning Trevor

  9. Dave says:

And I’m pretty sure adding $40 a year to cover the cost of administration is hardly a sign interest free student loans are going to be abolished.

  10. Simon says:

Too true Rebecca. In the unlikely event of a Labour win, no doubt many regular contributors to this blog will not have to cook for a month as they will be full and fat from having to eat their own words.

  11. Rebecca says:

Tehe Simon – very funny. I hope they don’t win as they won’t change anything but just increase the hand outs. I want the Nats to get a second term to really test what they are made of 3 years is not enough to make a big enough difference. I want to see their policies come to fruition as at the moment I think they are busy fighting off the chickens coming home to roost re Labour policies….

  12. Spud says:

@F reemantle? I do get beaten occasionally, the most memorable time was when “Not Spud” showed up. :-D

@Rebecca the imposter – nice to see your plug for the lawn franchise :P I imagine NS won’t last long, the GST has to be assessed at the time, but you can bet that Labour is disgusted by this unfair hike!

    @Simon – Nah! :P

@Rebecca – Even with the laugh I’m not quite convinced :? 6 years of National and the whole country will be bleeped! :-(

  13. Dave says:

Warning. We don’t have time to argue. But we have higher standards than most sites. Trevor

  14. Rebecca says:

Disgusted but acceptance = hypocritical Spud!

Aaah time will tell – sooner later Labour are going to have to start spelling out their policies so we’ll see….

It’s great that politics is so much more widely accessible via the internet – I think we are close to actually becoming democratic!

  15. Spud says:

@Rebecca’s imposter – Not hypocritical – Labour would never raise G$T to 15 percent  p.s. I hope real Rebecca comes back.

  16. 4thTower says:

” Labour will ensure that tax-cuts are spread evenly over all wage earners ”

    LOL.

    Like WFF did?

    LOL

  17. Rebecca says:

4th Tower but ohh, WFF was the silver bullet – surely you know this? It reduced child poverty (or so the reds claim…..not sure they explain away the poor record of child health we have in NZ…..clearly Labour’s definition of poverty is a little more specific).

Spud – not quite sure what you mean? Have I become blunter? Plus what does it matter – according to you I’m on the NACT payroll…..

My views have been the same all the way through of course as time goes on I have, since first coming onto RA, started to define my views as very definitely centre right.

I know you claim they have all changed, seen the light, blah blah blah, but I can’t see it? All I see is, as someone else so aptly put it the other day, the same old self-righteous “sneering and scowling” in conjunction with a lot of arrogance and misplaced superiority.

I love the initiatives like that detailed in this post, but I am waiting for policy. 14 months – they are leaving it a bit late to try & gain some traction.

  18. Spud says:

@Rebecca – you seem like an entirely different human being. 8O Is the real Rebecca coming back? It matters because I think people should write their own comments, plus I kinda like her. :-)

You’re right that Labour will eventually have to spell out their policies, and when they do it will be with pleasure
:-D But for now, you’ll have to settle for this blog with its intelligent MPs :-D

  19. Rebecca says:

Aaah spud dear spud what garbage. I am just showing less tolerance. You can call my comments whatever you like, but they are still my comments, my views, my thoughts.

Likewise I can assume that you are actually a Labour party member….in fact I am certain you are! :)

  20. Spud says:

I’m a labour party supporter and have always said that – WITH PRIDE! :-D !

  21. Loota says:

Hey Spud ever see that old school SF movie “Invasion of the Body Snatchers”???

  22. Spud says:

No, and I can’t really go down this line because Trevor has told me not to have any side chat.

  23. Mr. Anti-Commie says:

deleted offensive nonsense warning any more of this and you will be banned before your first comment appears Trevor

  24. Carolyn Stirling says:

From what I remember Labour was going to have an EMT and it was going to be higher than the one we have presently. Also wasn’t Labour going to increase GST also.

I am in my 60s and have been a lifelong Labour supporter its not a workers party any more. I am very disillusioned and Labour will have to work hard to regain my confidence. I do know many people my age who feel the same way.

  25. A Mother says:

GST increase? Don’t think Labour was going to do that. EST they did have a different version than National yes.
