What has the world come to.
The Attorney General of New Zealand has lost his nerve.
Too scared to come to the house past the media scum. scrum. (apologies to the noble journalists)
Now comes through the basement.

LOL
I think the pressure is working, I’ve seen some new NACT pack activity/names running a weak “gutter politics” defense.
I guess they are hoping to persuade the journo’s that check this site; to spin it that way
‘scuttling like a trapped rat’. What an attractive description. Is this the best you can do? When loyal supporters like me start to lose patience I suspect you are going to be on the opposition benches for a long time. This is no way to become a government!
Jane Dear I believe you are trolling and this is a warning. Clare
What on earth does trolling mean? And what do you mean by giving me a warning? I have rarely contributed to this blog though registered a while ago but I feel strongly about this issue and sincerely believe you are shooting yourselves (so therefore us) in the foot. I am sorry if this isn’t what you want to hear. So much for freedom of speech.
If my lawyer behaves the way he’s been doing, making excuses and pleading ignorance, weaseling, scuttling, etc, etc, I’d be concerned and look for another lawyer. But my goodness, this guy’s the A-G — what has become of New Zealand? How can we expect him to handle the important issues like F&S and others?
Trevor, media “scum”? I guess it’s appropriate, but unlikely to win you any friends in the Gallery, just ask Chris.
Trevor – you must be ecstatic that this is front page news and leading every news bulletin on radio and TV and that the talkback discussing this issue day and night – you really are getting in some major hits.
Oh sorry I was confused about real issues. Except for coming over to Red Alert this story continues to be invisible – why is that.
Trolling dear Jane is getting slightly off topic or criticising our sensitive little daffodils. You have to tread a very fine line on Red Alert – But I agree with your sentiment about Labour having a lack of focus on the real issues – may explain why they constantly poll 20% points behind.
“scum”
typo?
Really Jane, this thread, after all your months of reading is what triggered you to comment?
Monty you ask a very good question but it ought not be directed to Trevor but to those who thought trawling through mini bar expenses was front page worthy but an AG who wont follow laws/rules is not.
@Phil, looks like it’s fixed now. But I do wonder which is the more accurate phrase though — media scum or media scrum?
I have to admit that Findlayson was one of the few in the National government that I admired. Not anymore I’m afraid. He’s got to go!
Good point Tracy
Perhaps it is the lack of sex drugs and travel required to capture the mainstream media attention.
Unfortunately the incompetence of our Attorney General who could not fill out a simple return with out legal advice and then still got it wrong has much greater implication.
Just not sexy enough for the goldfish mentality main stream media perhaps.
I hope its only have the B team from the NACTs running interference on Red Alert, some of the efforts have been pitiful.

Strange you think that the AG submitting false statements to parliament about his personal interests doesn’t count as a ‘real issue’
Not sure if this is your first comment Troll but you are not welcome here. Go make your comments on the penguin or arachnophobic blowhole’s blogs Trevor
Jane & Monty well said.
Yes it is an important issue…to a degree but come on, not declaring a directorship is hardly life & death stuff and actually has no direct impact on the voter.
If by this continual hounding of the AG (what is this – post number 5 yet no one outside RA has picked it up) is regarded as worthwhile as it is indicative of poor charactor….well MPs are hardly regarded as noble people (especially where recent news is concerned) anyway so no surprises there.
This to me is TM-straws-clutching.
Yes he should go but then so should a lot of other MPs yet the don’t so time to move on I say.
All the other recent posts are I think far more important and quite frankly are far more interesting…
Trolling: Wikipedia definition
In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into a desired emotional response[1] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.[2] In addition to the offending poster, the noun “troll” can also refer to the provocative message itself, as in that was an excellent troll you posted. While the term troll and its associated action, trolling, are primarily associated with Internet discourse, media attention in recent years has made such labels highly subjective, with ‘trolling’ being used to describe many intentionally provocative actions outside of an online context.
@ Jane Dear have posted a number of inflammatory comments on Red Alert today. We accept critical comments but not personal attacks and obvious attempts to divert discussion in a nasty way. If you want to continue commenting can you provide me with some idea of who you are. Your details will remain private.
I have tried emailing you but your email address bounced back which suggests it isn’t valid.

Fascinating, do you really think that the methods ensuring transparency and protection against corruption in our Parliament has no direct impact on the citizens of the country? Well, OK, I’d say that the impact of a Govt Minister not respecting those methods of protection may not be obvious, but they have direct, and damaging, impact on each and every citizen.
Rebecca @ 6.38 You say no one outside Red Alert has picked it up. I’ve got over a dozen newspaper clippings that say you are wrong. You might also like to look on Kiwiblog and the Standard.
And there is more to come.
“And there is more to come.”
Sounds like the perfect set up for a sequel! In no rush though because this current chapter of the saga is still playing at the box office
I think the point of this post was to highlight the fact that Chris Finlayson, our supposed Governmental Champion of all things legal, is dodging and diving the media via the bat cave entrance.
Perhaps the fear that, they, the the media may lose another privilege via Lockwood isn’t allowing some chase scene footage ala Chris Carter.
Does the Speaker control access to Bellamy’s?
Chris Finlayson has probably been given advice to hunker down, don’t take phone calls, certainly don’t talk to the media and use the bat cave entrance to avoid news worthy Media mauls and chase scenes. Wait it out; the News cycle will move on…PSSSSST the Emission Trading Scheme is coming!
I would like to see this on the box,
Yes, the ETS starts tomorrow, yipee,
The Basment entrance, please send Chris Carter a diagram for his return…
Trevor – interesting that there is more to come – and I like the way the government (of any colour ) should be held to account – but this seems like the slow road to no where. I am very surprised Finlayson did not declare this directorship – he (like Parker) does not seem dis-honest or a trougher.
Tracy – yes the credit card invoices were worthy of front page news. The receipts made it clear who was taking every advantage of the Credit card. More interewsting of course was the reaction of Chris Carter – he made the story carry on – and of course will pay a price. The resulting circus became the story – not the receipts themselves.
I really have no patience for those posters here who complain about personal attacks – when did they ever complain to DPF etc about hideous personal attacks on Helen Clark et al? Hmm??
If my comments are inflammatory then I accept being warned and banned. I always scoffed at Tory friends who talked about Helengrad. This blog is too rough for me. And unpleasant.
Trevor – thank you, I will check them out (newspaper). Haven’t look at Kiwiblog……and The Standard? My mistake – I thought that was the same thing as Red Alert….
And yes, I see you have been busy and have written yet another post – full credit for your persistance!
I don’t disagree with your judgment against the AG, I just disagree that it is worthy of writing post after post after post…
The election will be no more than 14 months away – surely it is time to focus on getting some votes?
Clare – re “trolling” I think where Jane is coming from is that it would appear RA only ever seems to moderate those not clearly on the left yet allow your own supporters to continually digress and insult others…
Rebecca we moderate fairly and evenly. Clare
That’s not true, I got moderated two days ago for calling a Nat MP corrupt…
“That’s not true, I got moderated two days ago for calling a Nat MP corrupt…”
Not surprising you were moderated then Jeremy is it. If you said it to his face in public then expect to be present in Court.
yep the election is only 14 months away, and we are now seeing how this governments reacts when one of the team breaks a big rule.
Smoke screen mis-direction, blaming others, It is not my fault the rules, the rules were to hard!
Even worse Finlayson is resorting to the “if you can’t wash it off smear it around” approach.
14 months to an election, yep, not a good look to have your Attorney General resign because of dodgy dealing and bad legal practice.
National will do all it can to stop this occurring not because it is right, but because an admission could turn the spot light on the issue and cost a few votes.
