Red Alert

Poll result

Posted by on June 18th, 2010

Last week Red Alert published its first poll.

The question was:  Should Auckland’s new trains be built in NZ?

The results were:

  • Yes (75%, 534 Votes)
  • No (25%, 176 Votes)
    Total Voters: 710

A fairly resounding result and a high response rate we think.

There were 53 comments and a very thoughful discussion about the issues around kiwi content in large government contracts and the capacity of NZ to build carriages and engines.
As you’ll see below we have another poll running and plan to run them three times a week on Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays.
We welcome your suggestions for polls.
Clare

    Yee Haa! :-D :-D :-D

  2. Adolf Fiinkensein says:

The poll question might better have been:-

Should Auckland’s new trains be built in NZ even if they cost twice as much?

  3. Chris73 says:

    @Adolf

    Good point

I’d like to see a poll on the reintroduction of the death penelty

A poll on a left wing web site is hardly going to give an accurate result.
If you put the same question on kiwiblog the answer would be the exact opposite

Some where in between might be the real answer

    Clare

an edit button would be good

  6. Tracey says:

Adolf, link to your source please?

  7. Clare Curran says:

@Mark m A poll on a left wing site? Well Red Alert is read by many people, certainly not just left wingers. Kiwblog is one of the main referrers to us, which means people who read Kiwiblog then come to us.
Maybe we could do a poll asking poeple their political preferences?

And we are working on an edit function for commenters. Hopefully will happen soon. Red Alert is paid for personally by MPs. We’re having a bit of work done oin the site right now to ensure its stability.

Red Alert is a real evolution in NZ democratic activity and participation. Thanks Clare and to your colleagues.

  9. Ianmac says:

Clare: 710 is a significant number and yes there are quite a few non-left visitors to this site going by various comments from Rebecca, Adolf Fiinkensein, Chris 73 and others. An interesting result, and of course any contract would be let with dates and specs and costs agreed to. “The letting of this contract will not necessarily go to the lowest tender.”

“Well Red Alert is read by many people, certainly not just left wingers.” – Even Quoth the Raven, I wish he’d come back :-(

  11. Matagari says:

The poll results are hardly surprising considering that we have the capacity to carry out the work in New Zealand.

  12. Dylan says:

I would like a poll called ‘Are you comfortable with how far right Labour has shifted along the political spectrum’? or ‘Do you think Labour is what it used to be?’ or something along those lines.

  13. Loota says:

That’s a good idea, Dylan. Or – has Labour succeeded at espousing its founding principles and values for the 21st century. I would say – not yet.

  14. Richard says:

    Left is sinister.

  15. Gary Jones says:

    Yeah Right !

Reds under the Bed mentality from the 1960′s.

  17. Axeman says:

No 60′s mentality was “Better to be dead than red”

  18. Loota says:

Ah yes that started first and then everyone was afraid of Reds being everywhere. (Including under the bed :) )

  19. Jeremy M Harris says:

I still think 75% of the people are wrong… ;)

Not the first time… Won’t be the last…

  20. Clare Curran says:

@ Jeremy Don’t agree but like your attitude

  21. Clare Curran says:

@ everyone Poll on Red Alert on Wednesday asking which way you align politically. Watch out for it
