I knew this song for such a long time and had no idea it was by a New Zealander. By the time Max Merritt and Meteors did this they were in Australia, and they did not go on for long after this song, but it is definitely a classic.

Wow, I didn’t know it was kiwi either
Cool
I remember dancing lazily to Max Merritt. Cool.
I ecall first seeing Max Merritt and the Meteors with one of Joe Brown’s Miss NZ shows in the mid 60’s and then moonlighting as as a barman when the played at the Pacific Hotel in Hastings in the early 1970’s. They had a drummer with a couple of fingers missing – I think his name was Johnny Dick but as I recall he did not look like the guy in that video.
They had a successful hit with 1By the Devil I was Tempted.
Bugger – second word is recall……
The drummer might just be my new hero.
I am disappointed that the works of Hirini Melbourne &/or Richard Nunns have not been included in NZ Music Month.
Never had any idea he was a kiwi – a awesome track! Nice find.
Lovely kiwi song. Featured in Once Were Warriors 2, also Margaret Urlich did a great remix of it for her Second Nature album.
How about that Fred Dag?
