English – Assets for sale next term – Kiwibank first on block

Posted by Stuart Nash on May 22nd, 2010

Well, at least its out there now – http://tinyurl.com/2c3b273 - Bill English has signalled that assets will be sold if the Nats win another term. First on the block – Kiwibank.

At Labour’s banking inquiry earlier this year, an analyst said that the introduction of Kiwibank had saved New Zealanders about a $1,000,000,000 in interest payments due to competitive pressure it had bought to the market.

Selling Kiwibank (and other assets) would be a disaster for the country – and is certainly something Labour would never ever contemplate.

The true Nat agenda (as if we didn’t know) is at least not so secret anymore…

Kiwi bank would have to changes its marketing pitch.

I wonder if Blinglish sees the adds on tv and cringes.

@Loota: Reminds me of when Doug Myers labelled the Garden City as the “Peoples’ Republic of Christchurch” in the late 1990s because he couldn’t swallow the fact that the council’s major assets – such as ChCh Airport – were actually quite profitable. The council, run by I think it was Garry Moore back then, laughed it off and printed T-shirts with Myers’ remark. I still have one in my wardrobe. ;)

Will sale of kiwibank and other assets see Jim Anderton choose another Term ion parliament over Mayor of Christchurch City??

And speaking of Goldman’s and Merrill’s, when I saw this graph, the first word that sprung to mind was “Tulipmania”.

    Bill English’s brother uses Kiwibank.

If you had to choose between Kiwibank and Bill English and a glove puppet…which one would get your vote?
    Hmmmmm…..let me think for a minute here…..
Serious now..when Kiwibank came on the scene and I opened an account with them because they had dropped those ‘transaction’ fees (remember them?) I transferred my money from BNZ to Kiwibank. For weeks after that I was getting phone calls from BNZ !! After approx 25 years (yes, that’s right) the BNZ suddenly discovered I was here somewhere. Too little, too late BNZ, Kiwibank had come into my life and it was never to be the same again.
Go for the throat on this Kiwibank thing Labour.
