New Zealand Music Month #2- Poi E

Posted by Grant Robertson on May 2nd, 2010

On the back of the success of the superb movie Boy, Poi E has come storming back into the music charts reaching number 19 this week. This makes Poi E the only New Zealand song to enter the charts in three different decades. The song is the work of the incomparable Dalvanius Prime and the Patea Maori Club. The video is full of 80s treats. Enjoy, and remember if you have a particular NZ song or band that you think we should share during New Zealand Music Month, tell us in the comments.

The Spirit of New Zealand! “Thats Gold!”

  4. There was a quite promising band knocking about in Dunedin in the early 1990s – Too Many Daves. I recall it was on the verge of breaking big in Japan, but its manager ran off with its record royalties or something …
