Our thoughts are with the family and friends of those who have lost their lives and been injured in the crash of the RNZAF Iroquois helicopter this morning. For those who have not seen the news the helicopter was on its way from Ohakea to participate in a fly-by at the Wellington ANZAC service this morning. Three of the four people on board have died. I have just come back from a couple of RSAs and there is a great deal of sadness over this news. As Phil Goff has said
ANZAC Day is a day of sadness and poignancy for New Zealand and for this crash to occur today adds to this feeling,”
May they rest in peace, and may the survivor make a full and speedy recovery.
Sorry Grant, reports are that the fourth person has died in Hospital.
Stuff reports ” Wellington Hospital spokeswoman Raylene Bateman said reports that the fourth air force member had died were “absolutely incorrect” and the inaccuracies were “upsetting” to the Defence Force and the man’s family. He is described as being in a serious but stable condition.”
@ sofie – “Wellington Hospital spokeswoman Raylene Bateman said reports that the fourth air force member had died were “absolutely incorrect” and the inaccuracies were “upsetting” to the Defence Force and the man’s family”, from Stuff just now.
What a sad way to start ANZAC day, my thoughts are with all those affected.
Yes, that is disgusting and Harold actually reported it online, but I see it has been pulled now. Reinforces why I take that paper with a grain of salt, and yet I was slow today. My bad.
As sad as these deaths are, let us not make more of them than they are. Put simply, this is an industrial accident, the likes of which occur around the nation on a daily basis with around 100 deaths per annum.
All workpalce deaths should be mourned, and none mourned more than others.
Thanks Grant, have just returned from ANZAC Day activities. I found out mid morning and was very sad. Every accident is sad, but on a day when we are mourning the people who gave their lives defending their country or in the cause of peace, it is especially poignant.
Agreed left out. More people die each year in work place accidents than are murdered.
@ Left Out
All workplace deaths should be mourned, and none mourned more than others.
That really should be up to the individual, yes? Just as some like to express condolences, they too should be able to do so as much as they wish, yes? Just as ANZAC day obviously means different things to different people, none of which need to be judged, yes?
Very sad, I would like to offer my condolences.
Just in thinking, Maybe NZ should adopt the Elizabeth II cross for situations such as this…
