Epsom blue?

Posted by Trevor Mallard on March 14th, 2010

In a sign that the Nats have decided to rerun the worthless approach I’m told Jackie Blue is being lined up as the Nat candidate in Epsom.

Green light Rodney and one or two mates. Act list process will be fascinating.

Ah, shall indeed be fun to watch :-D

  2. Tracey says:

So National is not setting up for a FPP victory in the referendum then, or they would be using this seat to re-establish? This is clever by National because it enables them to implement very right wing policies under the guise of “concessions to our partner”. They can get some of what they really believe but distance themselves from it philisophically with voters.

  3. TopCat says:

Labour should make an effort to win Epsom. Hide is extremely unpopular amongst all groups and if National are too stupid not to realise what is happening up here, that will be their loss too. Moderate national voters will get turned off very quickly by what Hide/Joyce/Key are doing at the moment, only have to read the Herald to know that.

I’m in that electorate as is one of my brother’s who is a National ACT voter. He is becoming disconent particularly over the tax issues. I dont know that will drive him to Labour, but it might make him vote Nat Nat instead of ACT Nat.

  5. Gary Reid says:

The vote could very well be split between National and ACT l and labour could win it. Bye Bye Rodney and Roger.

  6. Inventory2 says:

Gary – considering that National and Act got in excess of 76% of the electorate vote between them (and Labour got 13.3%), I think the words from the Mitre 10 “Kids in the sandpit” advert might apply – “Mate, you’re dreaming!” :-)

  7. Tracey says:

I agree with Inventory2. Now IF Labour canget all Labour people voting national…

  8. Spud says:

    Ah the dilemma. :-)

  9. sweetd says:

What Spud, between voting labour in epsom or staying at home? Both will have the same effect.

IF Labour can get all Labour people voting national…

We tried that. I tried to persuade my sister who lives in the electorate to vote for Worth rather than Stuart Nash. She was all ready to do it, walked into the voting booth, had the pen in her hand and … couldn’t do it.

At a human level I understand why.

  11. Tracey says:

Perhaps Labour has to be more open about or not stanmd in that electorate which sends a resounding message to Labour supporters.

  12. Spud says:

Yeah, it would hurt to vote for National. :-(

  13. I dreamed a dream says:

With the high levels of popularity that National is enjoying, and that they are likely to enjoy through the next election in 2011 because Key is popular and plays safe, can someone tell me how National will not be in power even if ACT disappears? Throw in a little bit of maths, please, like what National needs to drop to and what Labour needs to get up to, etc. Thanks.

  14. Tracey says:

I dreamed a dream, perhaps you need to ask National people then why they wont challenge Rortney??

  15. I dreamed a dream says:

    Tracey, good point!

  16. Spud says:

    @IDAD – Come on, it’s only 2010 – Labour has a chance! :-D

  17. Darien Fenton says:

I’ve been interested in how Jackie Blue has been treated by the Nats. She was talked up in opposition as a potential minister – and she was their first spokeswoman on women’s affairs for ages. She got shafted in the Auckland Central selection and had to stand against Goff in Roskill again. Then she was recognised with…… nothing! She doesn’t even have a Select Committee chair position in the NACT government. So, I’m not sure if being lined up for Epsom is a punishment or a reward.

    Life ban Trevor

  19. I dreamed a dream says:

@Spud. OK OK OK. Go Labour Go! :)

  20. Spud says:

Yes! Glad to hear it! :-D :-D :-D

  21. Martin says:

Tracey. You’ve just said what I’ve been thinking all along. If one’s Labour vote Nat Lab, not Lab Lab. It’s not going to work in Epsom, voting Lab Lab.

Jackie Blue, are you kidding me? My god, she won’t beat Rodney!! National needs to select someone young, smart and successful – a Nikki Kaye or Simon Bridges-type person if you will. That will bring more votes in for National. Only voting for the National person will defeat Rodney.

  22. Spud says:

I always wonder what they life banners write…

  23. Raymon A Francis says:

Well Spud I have been put into moderation for just mentioning your name. Not in a derogatory way I hasten to mention
The mind boggles what would have to be said about you for a lifetime ban

  24. ghostwhowalksnz says:

Darien , thats what happens when you have friends like Aaron Bhanagar, he didnt want to have some minor party position in Roskill, hes a big shot in Epsom now, so hes bought Blue along as a trophy .
As for her faint visibility, I would think shes much more committed to her career.

  25. Sean says:

I always wonder what they life banners write…

Boggles me too, Spud and Raymon. But I think the moderation policy is clear and fair.

From observation, I believe to get a life ban the author must produce repetitive comments that not only troll, they also have no merit in anyway to the discussion, particularly through the re-statement of falsehoods long since debunked. And finally, the real straw for the camel’s back is abusive obscenity. I have seen it stated more than once that this site demands any comment must be readable by secondary students – so the language has to be clean.

You don’t have to agree with anything written here, but you are expected to interact somewhat like an adult. Odds are we are better of without that commenter.

  26. Spud says:

I wasn’t objecting, just curious for entertainment reasons
    :-D

  27. Sean says:

Fair enough Spud, but you’d probably regret wasting a portion of your life reading it.

  28. Cactus Kate says:

Jackie Blue would be an excellent candidate for ACT

Probably your best comment ever M.Savage!

  29. Jeremy M Harris says:

    @IDAD,

In the last election ACT got about 3% and the Nats 45% which when NZ First missed the threshold and their 4% became irrelevant gave the two enough seats to govern alone, Labour got 33%…

That won’t happen in the next election as NZ First will lucky to get 1% and it is unusual for any government to increase their vote in the second term (from memory the 87 Labour government was the last to do so) so the Nats will rely on ACT’s 2% – 3%, Dunne and Anderton’s seats could go to Labour and watch the Greens if they don’t get some good traction over the next 18 months they could dip below 5% which would be a disater for Labour’s hopes…

There is a good possibility the Maori party will stay at 5 seats and be the king maker ACT dropping out would almost ensure this unless the Nats increase their vote…

  30. Arts says:

The National Party want to see Rodney Hide elected as MP for Epsom , to retain the coalition partnership.

Hence it comes as no surprise to see Jackie Blue put up for the seat.

Her reward – they will most likely placated her with a good list placing. Look she is no world beater, but she is harmless.

  31. Tracey says:

Never right off Winston, I can sense him perculating…

J Blue is a world away from R Worth and that’s a good thing… Most Nats knew what an idiot Worth was (even if the PM didnt and hence promoted him to Cabinet)and that made giving their vote to Rortney easier.

Rortney eh? balance deleted off thread Trevor
