    Yes!!!! Go James! :-D

  2. James says:

Thanks Spud :D . Trevor, thanks a million for putting it up.

All: If you could please, I’d really appreciate you filling the survey out, it should take 30 seconds maximum. If you ever want to see updates on it, and other things I’m doing in preparation for Youth Parliament, I’ll be commenting to this post, and also checkout http://www.youthparliament2010.blogspot.com. With the exception of the survey link, I haven’t put anything up on it yet, but plan to shortly, and will be more frequently leading up to the proceedings scheduled for June 6 and 7.

  3. Tracey says:

    Done. Good for you James.

  4. James says:

    Thanks Tracey

  5. James says:

  8. A Mother says:

    Done now. :)

  9. James says:

Thanks heaps A Mother, and all others who have done it, have over 40 responses, aiming for at least 300. Please recommend to friends family etc, as the greater the range of people responding to it, the better. :D

  10. Spud says:

    Will do.

  11. Paul 2.0 says:

    Done

  12. Shane says:

Good luck James, I hope you are successful in being chosen.

I have answered the question. Of course there were other worthwhile areas to spend in but I answered “Education”. I posted about it on my Facebook page and added you.

  13. James says:

    Thanks Spud and Paul2.0 :D

Shane, Without saying too much about the responses, a quite large number have said education, so I think it’s good people are acknowledging and realising that education is the foundation of our society. Facebook- what a great idea. Have accepted you, will read what you said now :D

  14. James says:

thanks Shane, every piece of publicitys good!!

  15. Tracey says:

Ah, but then we have to discuss what kind of education we mean. Afterall Jaques Ellul’s treatise “Formation of Mens Attitudes” suggests that education by the state, any state, is analogous with propaganda! Great stuff James. I look forward to your report into how things went

  16. James says:

Thats something I’ve just been thinking about Tracey- in terms of education, its a pretty broad topic isn’t it? We can think about Early Childhood Education, Primary and Secondary Education, Teacher Professional Development, assessment tools (e.g. asTTle), Maori Education Centres, apprentices (transition scheme), Adult Community Education and lots lots more.

  17. Tracey says:

yes, and it’s even broader than education for which groups, which people, what type of education, one size fits all?

philosophyis important because it underpins the action to follow, sadly phiosphy gets ignored or jibed at, in favour of “practice” or “reality” whatever that means ;)

  18. Renee says:

Done. Good for you, James. Good luck with the survey and with your application to be a Youth Member of Parliament. And isn’t it interesting how many here think Education is the priority?
I’m going to mention your survey on my Facebook page too.

  19. James says:

Tracey, yes, very valid points. By the way, will order that book you mentioned- seems interesting. The philosophy thing is actually interesting, and I totally get the point you’re making, but its interesting as national standards policy is apparently also a philosophical ideology, and to be honest, without trial, I think it should be chucked out of cabinet- but that, however, is something for a different thread! :D

Renee- thanks for your support and for the publicity! In terms of

And isn’t it interesting how many here think Education is the priority?

    ,

I agree, and I’ll just quote a tiny tiny selection of a speech I wrote a while ago in regards to the importance of education:

Education is a foundation, infact, I view it as the foundation for the stability and movement of our society. Without the gift of education, our society will be one of crime, our society will be one of violence.

I think, this is where alot of the readers are coming from. I’m conscious of not releasing too much info on the responses to the survey before I complete my actual report, but I will just quote one respondent here:

…without education, the other areas are pointless. You won’t get enlightened 21st century thinkers if you can not address engagement in education – this means putting the resources into the areas that are needed – special needs, training…

I will post up the link to my final report on the survey on this thread
