I think that would be sad. The blog needs as many people of as many shades of opinion as possible contributing.

But just treat the place as if you’re talking face to face with someone. One wouldn’t (if hope) spit in the face of a stranger just because they’d said something one objected to. Yet in blog comments the equivalent happens all the time.

Let’s try to buck the trend here, chaps.

Hi Spud,
Thanks for your support, but when a couple of vociferous and negative commenters are allowed to make misleading and deeply offensive personal claims without so much as a censure – let alone deletion – then Mallard is right. It is time to move on… and out. I don’t want to participate here any more. I may change my mind one day but at this stage it’s unlikely.

@ Monique Watson. My comment @ 7.55pm yesterday was not meant as a criticism. In the normal course of events what you had to say was sound advice. But it’s sad to see a good blog site – where individuals could express their views in a safe environment- being ruined by the tone of a few. I have noted in recent times that some well informed commenters who regularly contributed here seem to have gone. Perhaps that’s the nature of the medium, but I have wondered if they were turned off.

Okay. Now I’m finding this ‘he said’, ’she said’ business unsettling. This is precisely how I argue with my husband and being as plate throwing and make up sex is definitely out of the question in this type of forum, I think it could be time to turn our attention to another topic. Please don’t all turn on me but we need to act quickly before our esteemed Prime Minister does another Woman’s Mag interview.

Tracey I don’t believe that was your intention, but that was how I read it. And no I never said that you couldn’t have an opinion, I merely said that your opinion was only theoretical if you haven’t had children. It’s along the same lines as when I worked in a Kindergarten I really thought I would find handling my own child a piece of cake…until I had my own child. When you’re a parent it does shape your views in ways you never even expect.

Btw, I was on the moderating hot list last night too. Basically we have both taken the issue off its original track so best to just leave it there and just agree to disagree.
