Labour is taking the fight to the government on its unfair tax plan. The “Axe the Tax” bus tour is covering the country.
We are campaigning against is whole tax package, which includes all of:
- GST going up from 12.5% to 15%, even though National said before the election they would NOT;
- The unfairness of the massive cut to the top tax rate, dressed up as “alignment”, which delivers windfall gains to the top few percent.
The government’s GST tax switch is really just cover for the massive shift towards top end tax reduction.
Politics is, at least partly, about who gets what – and guess who stands to benefit most from National’s plans?
Not the vast bulk of Kiwis, who are on middle and lower incomes and who have toughed out the recession.
Labour will release its tax policy before the next election. Labour’s tax plan will be fair to all Kiwis, not one aimed at delivering big cuts only to a few.
P.s @ Tracey disagreeing with Labour’s constant attacks on National when they are only fresh out of office and have yet to produce anything of substance by way of alternative solutions, does not mean that one is pro National. I will support whoever shows me they are smart, have substance and have a real understanding of where this country is at. To me National seems to fit this mould better than Labour. I voted for Helen in her first term, then stuck it out for the second as well, Brash certainly doesn’t come across as smart as his PH.D would imply, then switched to National once Key became the leader of the Nats. I like Helen’s leadership style better, but I like Key’s cabinet the best. English I’m a bit iffy on – Cullun was a bit of conservative, but he is a clever man. English is….well, not so. But Judith Collins & Paula Bennett – love them. Strong assertive ladies, have loved everything they have come out with so far. So you see it’s not about being blinded by ideology, it’s about keeping in mind the big picture. This axe the tax campaign, while catchy, will do nothing and produce nothing that we don’t already know.
I heard that national is justifying its GST raise by making reductions to income tax.
one word: inflation.
@Rebecca
Like Paula Bennett?
When is P.C. going to report on her actions by the way? Sorry of topic just curious. She distorts figures like everyone else in National.
@Rebecca – Labour is in opposition it’s their job to critique not to come up with policies.
