Backbenches this week

Posted by Trevor Mallard on February 23rd, 2010

THIS WEEK ON BACK BENCHES:  Wallace Chapman, Damian Christie, the Back Benches Panel and special guests go head to head over the week’s hottest topics!

POLICE POWERS: Is it time for harsher penalties for crims that bash cops? But are we too focused on punishment rather than prevention?

MINING: Helen Clark says when it comes to mining: “some things are more important than money.” Do we need to be concerned about mining on DOC land? Or is this much ado about nothing?

Backbencher Pub: Wednesday, 24th of February. Our Panel: Green MP Sue Kedgley, Labour MP Damien O’Connor, and National MP Louise Upston.

It sickens me that they want to mutilate our conservation land.

  2. Gooner says:

It sickens me that Chris Carter gave a mining permit to Pike River Coal in 2004 on DOC land.

This mine does represent an intrusion into an area of high conservation values and a decision on whether to allow it to go ahead has been a very difficult one to make because of this,” Mr Carter said.

It was a balancing act then, as it will be now.

  3. Oliver says:

It sickens me the continual scaremongering Labour is doing on all issues before any information is actually released illustrating how the issues will be actioned

I’m looking forward to hearing from Louise Upston talk about the conservation estate – given her statement on her blog: “…I see it is my job to protect (New Zealand) – to ensure that our children and grandchildren inherit the best country we can create”
