Not yet it aint, I thought you were great on Closeup.
“It’s stupid and very, very unfair. It shows the sort of blind prejudice I thought we didn’t have in New Zealand anymore. I’m not surprised the [owner's] Australian.”
You’re a funny man, Trev.
I don’t know why they singled out Wainui, there are plenty of feral people all over the country. Although I must say having had the misfortune of supermarket shopping over the big hill on one occasion, I won’t be doing that again. Fat, dopey-looking layabouts wearing pyjamas, socks and sandals seem to mope about aimlessly with their many untamed kids tagging along, giving a pretty dismal impression of the place.
Geez Spud, You and I need to get a life lol
I thought it was against the law to discriminate against anyone either by age, gender or origin?
Michael Baines defended the motel’s position, saying……… “As long as it obeys the law, we would back up any motelier’s right to make decisions regarding their business.”
Ambiguous at the least.
I’m very much of a similar opinion to ‘Kiwireader’ who commeneted above;
As Motel Association chief executive Michael Baines said
Regardless of this however, it was not right to ban a whole town because of this. Akldnut you said
I’m not sure he is, as he is not giving any discrimination against age, gender, or origin- if it being defined as my dictionary defines it, place of birth. If you are referring to geographical origin that could be different.
Reasons were basically racist. Motel in liquidation so probably a sign of wider management failure.
@Alkdnut
Happy Boxing Day!
@Trevor – I hope the new owner welcomes your town with open arms!
p.s. Alkd – Happily drinking
Yee Haa!
The owner had to sell off part of the hotel, and I’m pretty sure it changed hands sometime after that.
It was embarrassing to see my city represented in a bad way by that man.
You Trevor and others from Wainuiomata are welcome in Palmerston North any time!
The story of the hapless motel owner at the Supreme Motor Lodge in Palmerston North was one that we particularly enjoyed following at the Motella blog.
The Closeup TV spoof you attempting to claim your entitlement of a room at the Supreme Motor Lodge in Palmerston North was hilarious. Of particular amusement was when you cried foul at the motel owner for discriminating against the poor people of Wainuiomata and then promptly mocked the motelier’s Australian heritage;-)
Michael Baines, CEO of the Motel Association was right saying……… “As long as it obeys the law, we would back up any motelier’s right to make decisions regarding their business.”
We would be the first to admit that a motel banning a whole town may be dumb. And even dumber admitting it on national television, but the point here is that business owners should be able to make decisions on how they run their own private business and who they choose to host on their private property.
If owners of businesses allegedly make dumb decisions then they should face the consequences. The public are extremely savvy when it comes to making buying decisions and by forcing this owner to take on persons from a certain geographic region (including you Trevor) would not solve this supposed problem.
When it was reported the motelier was allegedly facing financial woes this attracted sneering comments from you, Trevor. However it would appear that it was the market that ultimately decided the fate of this motelier and not further regulation and compulsion – but I guess this may not be understood on this forum.
@Motella and I’m proud of my small part in making sure the market was well informed. I’m sure the new owners won’t make that sort of mistake.
That’s another contribution of yours to the NZ economy. In the best Labour Party tradition you are glad to continue destroying business.
He was just sticking up for his constituents! I’m sure the business will revive under a new owner!
Oh dear you are a sad old troll aren’t you Santi. You want the market to work. It is informed. Ownership changes and you don’t like it. Tough.
Just don’t expect me to care about racists who drink too much and blow their business.
You are banned indefinitely for being offensive. Clare
WHY would you gloat over something like this, sure the guy made a mistake over your lot, but if rubbing salt into the wounds of someone elses misfortune gives you your jollies keep it up.
I guess you won’t mind when people rub your nose into the mud when your polls slip any further, just remember, you reap what you sow
Trevor, you’re wrong: I’m no troll.
Anyone could detect your glee in reporting the motel has gone under, so it was entirely correct to highlight your contribution to its demise, and to add it to the list of Mallard’s mistakes and cock-ups.
Your stay in opposition (for the next eight years) will be highly beneficial to NZ business.
Just to make it clear i am happy that there is some justice in the economy. That people who are offensive to Maori, that abuse kids for making a tiny bit of noise during the day and ban a whole town lose their business because of this and lots of other things does not make me in the slightest bit unhappy. I’m sure the motel with new people running it will be a success and that is good too.
It is not the role of the opposition to support idiots – even if Santi in his various persona thinks it is.
I mean to say the owner had no business nous or any hospitality clues.
One chance to be on National TV and he should have been welcoming you in – with the cameras- to see his fine establishment.
In the end it could have been like the Crafars, dont have a clue so the bank pulls the plug
mallard, you are a tosser…balance deleted. Life ban Trevor
