Go the All Whites

Posted by Chris Hipkins on November 15th, 2009

I was fortunate to be at the Westpac Stadium last night for the All Whites v Bahrain game. There is no other city in the country that can throw a party quite like Wellington. The atmosphere at the Stadium was electric.

I’ve been to plenty of events at Westpac Stadium before but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a crowd go quite as wild as they did last night when the All Whites scored the only goal of the game or when Kiwi keeper Mark Paston blocked a penalty minutes into the second half, a save that ultimately secured us a place at the World Cup.

The All Whites have done us proud. I was four when we last made it to the World Cup in 1982. I’ve been waiting for more than 25 years to see them make it there again. They’ve worked hard to get there and they’ve got the whole country behind them.

It was a lovely game – I watched it at the Dog’s Bollix. Dazzling goal, dazzling save of a penalty kick, and my heart was in my mouth for those few minutes of extra time – then the joy of the final whistle, and entrance into the world cup. Go, the All Whites!

Couldn’t agree more! The keeper did such an amazing job, they don’t get enough praise but without him we wouldn’t be here!
    Well done, All Whites!
