It is bad enough that the government has been encouraging private sector employers (Telecom, Open Country Cheese, NZ Bus) to be militant but now we see not just a government agency but the Parliamentary Service itself is trying to claw conditions back from some of the lowest paid workers in the building. And threatening to lock them out for minor stopwork action. Like Talleys doing the negotiating.
Grant Robertson, Carol Beaumont and I joined their protest.
Update Darien and Chippie were there too.

The lockout threat must be one of the most bizarre things I have heard at Parliament. The logic, apparently, is that the security staff are increasing our risk of terrorist threat by taking industrial action. So, how do we deal with that? Lock them out so they definitely can’t provide security to the building. It is just nonsense and Parliamentary Services should get back to the bargaining table and play fair.
Tell us how much they are paid, then we can decide if they are worth supporting. Just to WANT a pay increase is no different from anyone else, including parliamentarians no doubt.
Go the workers! I’m appalled that they are locked out!
Chippie and I were there too. It will be interesting to see how Parliamentary Services plans to get around the replacement labour issue.
he photo resembles a “Bishop” Brian Tamaki meeting
Don’t know jabba never been to one – did you put your $700 in.
$700 you are joking .. my comments were related to the dress colour.
All joking aside, I’m not sure that this “situation” regarding the so called Bishop is good .. off thread but this subject is potentially dangerous.
The game between the Aussies is about to start so .. see ya later
@jabba LOL
– Tamaki, he and English should get together and share tips on milking people.
