Chippie posted on his Parliament Business Trust time with Sky City.
I’m doing one with Fonterra – main focus for me will be the capital structure issue with a look at their Latin America strategy. I was involved in lots of discussions on the former when in government and Chair a group of MPs interested in the latter.
This is not new for me I did a week with EDS in about 1997 and a more extensive programme with Telecom in 1995. Those contacts awakened me to the potential of ICT which was useful especially as Minister of Education. Most importantly they made links with individuals and then sites that help with my ongoing education.
Because I haven’t seen a factory or a working dairy farm for years I’m off to Timaru soon.
The only contact I’ve had with Clandeboye (thanks for correction) was around a school closure – one that went pretty smoothly. I’m sure it is going to be an interesting day.
Have fun
I hope you check with farmers as much as with the big boys, who are getting plenty of face time with Key and Carter.
Key of course has dabbled around the speculative edges of dairying ( a flop) and as part of a corporate farming group.
So maybe the guys who are at the ‘udderface’ should be listened to!
Clandeboye?
From your point of view the school closures may have gone smoothly, I think you did the right thing by the way, I think you will find the locals not quite as supportive
I heard a moan about the subject last week at a COGs meeting
Why don’t you do some time with the unionised bus drivers currently locked out of their jobs by NZ Bus? Or the Telecom engineers shut out of their jobs by Visionstream and Telecom in their greed for higher profits?
You might get a feel for what ordinary Kiwi workers are going through, instead of a feel for how desparate the boss is for a bigger bonus…
I think both Carol and Darien have done so already. I’ve spent time wirh Telecom engineers and will spend time with Open Country workers later this week.
And are you saying people who milk cows or work in dairy factories are not workers.
Interesting viewpoint bob.
