The Herald reports that NZ Bus have rejected an offer from locked out drivers to drive school buses without pay when term starts on Monday.
Don’t know who is giving NZ Bus PR advice but they have made a big mistake here. If there are big traffic jams or one kid goes missing while walking home the bosses will cop the blame.
And they will cause a pile of unnecessary parental anxiety and time wasting even if there are no direct problems.
Just don’t understand why they didn’t say yes. Locking out very low paid drivers for having the cheek to do their jobs according to the rules is bad enough but this is certainly a very bad look.
” NZ Bus have rejected an offer from locked out drivers to drive school buses without pay when term starts on Monday.”
That’s clever turning down free labour and leaving parents with transport issues.
please correct me if I’m wrong .. bus drivers have been on strike a few times over the past 10 years or so.
Yes Spud .. if that is the case then what’s the story about punishing our kids and parents?
The people at NZBus must have read too much Ayn Rand.
I’m usually reluctant to call anyone stupid (members of this present government excluded, they are always fair game), but in this case I have to agree with the title of the post – this is stupid.
interesting that with this dispute you’ve chose to not put the boot into Infratil – who NZBus are a subsidiary of
Why is a crucial, essential service, that will only become more and more important as petrol prices increase, owned and operated privately and for profit (not to mention ? It already sucks up $88 million of tax/rate payer money and posts $40 million dollar (before convenient write-offs and tax) profits, yet I fail to see the much heralded private sector efficiency.
@Jabba Hi

I don’t understand the question.
Wasn’t so long ago you were supporting the NZ Bus integrated ticketing system bid. Now you are calling them stupid (I agree with you there!).
Do we also want a ’stupid’ integrated ticketing system for our biggest system? If they treat the city the same way as they are now then what hope is there for the future.
NZ bus has too much power over the transport market as it is.
Stupid IR approach does not mean that ticketing suytem isn’t best option. And anyone who can’t see that walls can be built to isolate commercially sensitive info needs better education.
I believe integrated ticketing is key to improving public transport in Auckland. For something so important, I’m not sure if you want these clowns running it over Thales, a proven company around the world.
Infratil aren’t exactly doing themselves any favours with this caos!
The Snapper system is a joke and if we don’t get the Thales system it will be just another in a long line of stupid transport options and decisions in Auckland…
I guess we’ll see how far Infatil’s tentacles reach into the National government, SJ and the NZTA…
There is no last word in Diplomacy – the Fact of a Strike indicates a Failure of Substantial Prop[ortions.
