House tactics – Wiremu Pakeha missing

Posted by on September 24th, 2009

So we have had urgency for each week of the current session.

Last night the house finished four hours early because the government had run out of business.

And now we are back in urgency doing the ETS.

But we are also doing the Remuneration Authority legislation, the policy for which was announced months ago, and the Money Laundering legislation which as been around forever. Both these could have been done on Tuesday if Brownlee got his act together.

Trying to work out why they are doing these two. Maybe it is because Bill English is away. Possibly trying to see if he remembers the way back to Dipton.

That’s not really fair, Trev. Bill can always rely on GPS – gross parliamentary subsidies – when it comes to his housing situations.

No it hadn’t. Everyone but the government had run out of business. And even then members hadn’t really run out of business, it’s just that no-one wanted to debate it.

Why you couldn’t have used the opportunity of a debate on the report of the Select Committee Review of the Emissions Trading Scheme to discuss Climate Change, I’m not sure. But for some reason, leave was granted to adjourn.

Sorry Graeme I was under the impression that the government threw in the towel and sought leave to go home early. Though from the penguin blog I see many went to the pub.

I can’t believe that something as important as the ETS is being rammed through under urgency! :x What’s the hurry? Does this not deserve more care and consideration? :x Grrr.
