Paul Quinn originally said he wanted to be MP for Wellington Central, he still lives there, he ran in Hutt South but now appears to be sniffing around Rimutaka – though some of us doubt that he could find parliament from that far out.
I want him to be the candidate for Hutt South again. I enjoyed going to meetings with him during the last election and I have been encouraging my constituents to get to know him.
So I’ve decided to put up $200 – $100 for Paul’s campaign and $50 each for Grant and Chippie if he is the Hutt South candidate.
Hearing this in the House Paul said he wanted an auction. Well he has got one.
this is too good not get a slice of. Paul’s quiet, diplomatic style is just what we need in Wellington Central. $100 for Paul and $100 each for Chippie and Trevor.
I see your $100 for Paul and raise you to $150 each for Trev and Grant.I’ll throw in an offer to drive him to all the meet the candidates meetings.
I suppose the same thing could be said of Mr Twyford, Mr Mallard, who lives in Mt Albert and said he wanted to be the MP for Mt Albert, despite standing as candidate somewhere on the North Shore and now having an office in Auckland Central.
I know Paul put in a huge effort in Lower Hutt and would have been a great MP representing that electorate. I know you take pride Trevor in being the only Labour MP to increase their majority. Must have been all that positive publicity you received late last year eh? Or was it the boundary changes bringing NaeNae into the fold? Or was it the increase in the number of people dependant upon the state because of middle class welfare such as WFF?
@ monty – he did put in huge effort for Paul and I encouraged that. My majority didn’t go up – the collapse of NZ First and Future United votes to Quinn meant the Nats vote went up by more than mine did. A bit more of Naenae also helped.
I am constantly inviting him to visit the Hutt, find his way to his offices and more importantly meet lots of people.
@ Tim. Very different situation. I think rather than wanting Phil to stand in Auckland Central Nikki Kaye would make a donation to his campaign if he stood somewhere else.
Ok $100 for Paul’s campaign, $175 each for Grant and Chippie, but I won’t take him in my van from place to place because I need the time to make calls etc. Happy for him to follow me though so he doesn’t keep getting lost.
Hmm… maybe you should just arm wrestle him, winner decides
Not sure arm wrestling both Grant and Chippie at the same time for the prize of having Paul as an opponent is totally fair.
I would be at a weight disadvantage in both cases
Trev
If you could stand against one National Party MP for your electorate seat, who would it be?
Surely Cactus it would have to be Tau Henare??? Trevor I am sure would love to beat him in that areana as well!
I am sure many of us Act and National supporters would like to see that as well and maybe Tau would then need to go and find work in the real world.
As for Paul Quinn – Well I would love to see him as my local MP here in Wellington city and will certainly support his campaign with a $200 donation.
Having been raised (but escaped from the Hutt Valley) I have always been cursed by living in Labour electorates -
No I reckon I couldn’t do much better than Paul. Though Wilkinson, Nick Smith and Tau would all be pretty good alternatives for quite different reasons.
@monty – if you are bidding you have to beat $450. And seeing I started the auction at least $100 has to go to my campaign if I don’t get the advantage of Paul as my opponent.
Time will tell I suppose, Mr Mallard. Remember that Ms Kaye won a seat that National has never held before from an incumbent who had been there for 12 years. She’s pretty popular around these parts. She’s my local MP, works very hard and seems very well regarded even in non-traditionally national areas like Waiheke.
I suppose since Ms Tizard is next into Parliament on Labour’s list you would be hard-pressed to say anything about her talents, but it’s fair to say that Ms Tizard in Auckland Central was a seasoned campaigner who was very well known in the electorate.
I suspect Mr Twyford will have an uphill struggle even getting selected for Auckland Central if Ms Tizard puts her name back in the ring.
Still waiting for Nikki to bid for Phil Tim. Don’t think she will.
Mr Mallard, for somebody who has been consistently under-rated by the Labour Party, you sure seem to be paying a lot of attention to Ms Kaye. How is the Taupo training going?
Tim u mentioned Auckland Central @ 12.04 + 5.23 Training going a bit slowly thanks -Wellington even windier than normal – still don’t like my chances at all.
To be fair Mr Mallard, the weather in Auckland has been inclement over the last few days. Good for you with going through with it though.
It would be brilliant if Paul stood in Wellington Central.
I can just imagine having Quinn knock on my door with his verbal equivalent of barking.
After some consideration I doubt that Paul Quinn would ever knock on my door. I suspect that this type of campaigning isn’t quite his style.
Monty
Unfortunately thanks to National, Tau will find it harder to be equipped for the “real world” – night class funding for basket weaving classes getting the axe and all.
Maybe Tau could become a front person for Jenny Craig or Weight-watchers and we can all watch advertisemens as he shrinks from his current portly size down somewhat.
Trev – being a lowly paid manager who is still suffering from a decade of over taxation thanks to Labour’s socialist policies there is no way I can afford $450 in the auction – but nevertheless I will donate $200 to Paul’s campaign should he stand in Wellington Central.
Trevor one more thing – don’t you think the hard working middle classes have funded Labour (and therefore your) campaigns enough in the past??? Sorry but it will be a very cold day in hell before I would ever contribute more than 2 cents to any Labour or socialist campaign.
Tim, besides, Auckland is soon to be one big, happy, ‘super city’ without boundaries thanks to Rodney and John W Key.
Monty you forget that I can see your name on your email.
Wow after the video about no sensorship and open to comment interesting to see it didn’t take long for you to fall back into the “I know who you are, watch out” mode Trevor.
Or should have not said this because you know who I am???????
Geek I’m not threatening to out monty because I know there is a chance that he is bullshitting about his name on his email rather than his remuneration level on his comment. Just making sure he knows that I know. Of course by Paul Reynolds standards he could be called lowly paid! !
Thats the problem with the internet. Typing can infer the wrong meanings. I might not be the only one who got the impression of “vee know who you are and vee haf vays of making you talk”
No wish to converse with monty.
How about some more bids. Looks like the right have given up on backing Paul.
Chippie @ 2.55pm yesterday – you won’t if you don’t get on your bike soon.
and the last for a while, A reminder from NZPA 6 August why we all want to have Paul as our opponent
Mr Henry said clear rules were needed to “delve through the various entities back to the original donors”.
He said there also were issues when donations accumulated and it was hard to trace the sources.
“If Parliament wants transparency of that nature, my guess would be that it needs to legislate from more
comprehensive, simple, certain rules.”
National MP Paul Quinn wanted to know why transparency was desirable.
Thanks for the message Trevor

Trevor – I am very well aware that my name (and it is my real name) is on the bottom of every posting. I am very happy to put my money where my mouth is – I am more than happy to contribute to Paul Quinn’s election campaign. I contributed to Stephen Franks’ campaign and I regret that he did not make it into parliament – he certainly has much to contribute. -You will be pleased to know every election I volunteer my mothers very prominent fence for National Party Bill Boards (so your hacks can go and destroy them).
I am also ashamed to say my in-laws have voted for you every election despite 20 years of me trying to convince them that Labour is evil. But on the other hand I do believe that Labour needs more people such as yourself.
Happy to converse with you any time.
Monty,
Does it bother you that National would’ve had a better chance of winning Wgtn Central if Franks wasn’t such a bigot?
But back on topic, is there any electorate Quinn would do better than and average Nat in? He came across as surprisingly unpleasant the couple of times I saw him campaigning but he must have something that made them choose him
Anita – Stephen Franks is not a bigot – rather he was protrayed as such by a very nasty yet organised Labour Party hacks who were terrified of losing Wellington Central to National. Comments were taken out of context and posted up all over Wellington.
As for Paul Quinn – all my dealings with him have been surprisingly pleasant and friendly.
If you want nasty, then I suggest you look at some of the Labour MPs – inparticular some who have now been evicted from Parliament (either by force or by choice) and there you will see some of the most nasty and bigoted people you could ever come across.
Monty says
“As for Paul Quinn – all my dealings with him have been surprisingly pleasant and friendly”
Ditto.
Didn’t Paul Quinn have something to do with the Maori rugby team, which national cut funding to?
