Good old Hone Carter is now being held up as a model MP for his calling the contract being offered to the Chorus people a crock. I hope all National Ministers follow his lead. And for that matter the backbenchers too.
Thanks to the NDU for releasing the material to make it clear that Wayne Mapp acting for Wilkinson misled the House today.
So she’s chicken, he’s fibbing and only Hone looks good over there… again.
Will the situation of Wayne Mapp (acting for Kate Wilkinson) misleading the house be taken any further?
No point see:- http://blog.labour.org.nz/index.php/2009/08/26/speaker-says-pm-can-lie-when-he-is-answering-a-supplementary-question/
who exactly is the minister for communication, and where is he.where is the body of john carters statement going to be buried after being assasinated by wayne mapps retort.
@oidville sorry haven’t replied. Only just read this. Steven Joyce is the Minister or Communications and IT, though he doesn’t really have much to say about it. And as or Carter’s satement being buired, listen to question time today
thank you,watching question time now.
I am now fed up with all this im without a job in 4 weeks time we can plead as much a we want these mp,s wont do anything for us if they were interested we would not have been in this situation.Im afraid its too little too late the industry is going down ,so as much as everybody goes crying to the mp,s they cant do anything .Good luck all telco workers the battle is over
To Fed Up.
No one can blame you for being fed up with this shambles.
It’s been brewing for a long time and I think the only way that NZ is going to ever value their Telco techs is to go without their phones and broadband for an extended period.
In the mean time I suggest you head down to Income Support the day you finish up and sign up for for the Restart scheme.
http://www.workandincome.govt.nz/individuals/a-z-benefits/restart.html
This will give you at least an income to pay bills and decide what you want to do next.
The more techs who do this means that Visionstream won’t be able to hire overseas workers on temporary work permits and New Zealand Immigration will have to remove Telecommuniciations Technicians from their Immediate Skill Shortage list – see http://tiny.cc/AxnEU
There are other jobs out there paying more than the $20 an hour most techs are presently on. I know unskilled labourers who walk into $23+ per hour jobs so there is better paid work out there.
Another option is to take this opportunity to Upskill.
If you’re more ambitious and still want to work in Telecoms you could do a Fibre Optic Jointing course with http://djc.co.nz/fibrecourses.html and then get in on the A$45 Billion Australian Fibre network. Jobs there pay from A$40-60 per hour.
New Zealand doesn’t deserve the dedication, expertise or the sacrifice expected of their Teleco techs and just to keep the likes of NZ Telecom in multi million $ profits and paying 1/4 of their mangers $100k plus salaries.
If the Politicians and Public don’t support us now then they deserve to feel the effects of lack of action on this matter.
Chin up. You’ve got lots of options. Tell Visionstream to take a hike, I am.
First time ever I have supported Hone Carter on anything. He typically advocates for Wellington in the North, not vice versa and has a permanent fence mark on his trousers. There is good community support for Telco workers up here as many of us know them personally. The dodgy deal deal is not viable in the north due to travel distances between jobs. We know our infrastructure will deteriorate further without skill service people. Don’t be so negative Fed up, this fight is still on and needs to be taken to communities (Telecom customers) to ramp it up further.
